Review: Supernatural Season 9, Episode 7: Bad Boys

If there is ever a Supernatural spinoff show, I want it to be about Sam and Dean as children. Heartbreaking as it is, I’m endlessly fascinated by the story of how the Winchesters grew up. It sheds so much light on how they behave as adults, and the writers manage to infuse their childhood stories with so much genuine emotion. (Plus, I live for the 80s and 90s vibes). Seriously, I love Supernatural flashback episodes. I think this one reiterated something we all already knew: John Winchester was a terrible father. The more I learn about his parenting, the more surprised I am that Sam and Dean aren’t more emotionally scarred. I’m sure I’m preaching to the choir here, but who leaves their sixteen-year-old to rot in jail because he tried to steal food for his hungry brother? That is beyond harsh if you ask me. It’s actually really cold and unfeeling. And, the fact that John only came back to get Dean when he needed him is even worse. Does John not realize that anything could have happene

Review: Supernatural Season 9, Episode 6: Heaven Can't Wait

I’ve gone through ups and downs with Castiel throughout this series, but this episode reaffirmed why I always go back to loving him. Seriously, Castiel was ADORABLE in this episode. I love him as a convenience store employee! Weirdly, it’s the perfect career for him. He takes taquitos and lottery tickets so seriously! It’s fantastic. I also like how he wears his blue vest everywhere, even on (supposed) dates! Like I said, adorable. “When I fell to earth, I didn't just lose my powers. I had nothing. Now, I'm a sales associate!” Has got to be the defining quote of this episode. One day, I would like to be as proud of something as Cas is to be a sales associate. I was actually pretty annoyed with Dean for making fun of him. Like, why can’t Castiel have a normal life? Why can’t he have a normal job? Sure, he’s an ex-angel with the hoardes of Heaven on his tail, but he deserves time to stop and smell the roses! (If you can call the smell of the gas station bathroom roses). Realistic

Review: Supernatural Season 9, Episode 5: Dog Dean Afternoon

Okay. As a cat lover, I found this episode pretty hard to watch. Did that guy really need to eat the cat? Surely, the writers could have spared us that. I’m okay with all the blood, guts, and gore that Supernatural can throw at me, but I draw a line at causing harm to animals, and that scene in the shelter was pretty gruesome. To be fair, I wasn’t happy with the outcome for any animal in this episode. I guess we just have to hope that someone bothered to let those mice go free and that all the dogs that attacked the monster guy found good homes afterwards. I was a little miffed at Dean for letting all the dogs out. No matter how much they complain, those dogs were definitely better off in the shelter than on the streets. Especially the blind one! I guess I should be grateful that no one killed a dog in this episode. I’m almost 100% sure that a dog has never survived an episode of Supernatural (except for the one that Sam ran over, but that was a close call). That being said, I really

Review: Supernatural Season 9, Episode 4: Slumber Party

Oh my goodness, this was such a FUN episode. I feel like every time Charlie appears, an amazing episode ensues. I know that she’s off to Oz now, but hopefully she comes back to planet Earth sometimes to catch up with the Winchesters. It was a bit weird to see the Wicked Witch of the West on Supernatural , but I have to admit that it worked well in this episode. Those flying monkeys were certainly one of the most terrifying monsters I’ve seen on Supernatural . In general, I thought that incorporating the mythology of the Wizard of Oz into the show was really clever. The whole episode was like a little movie! I particularly liked the character of Dorothy. She’s clearly a great hunter, and she’s lived a really interesting life. I hope we see her on the show again. Aside from the Wizard of Oz element, I thought this was a great episode for character building and development. I really enjoyed seeing Sam and Dean interact with Charlie in a relaxed way. (By the way, it was too funny that they

Review: Supernatural Season 9, Episode 3: I’m No Angel

Remember how I said in the last review that I wasn’t sure about Ezekiel? Well, now I’m sure about Ezekiel, and I’m sure I don’t like him. Anyone who says that Castiel needs to go is majorly suspicious to me. It’s possible that Ezekiel isn’t trying to heal Sam, and he doesn’t want Castiel to know about it. Ezekiel might even be one of the big bads of this season. But, whatever the situation is, I’m not trusting Ezekiel anymore. However, in my opinion, the best part of the episode was Castiel learning to be human. Seriously, I could watch an entire season just about Castiel and his human activities. I’m glad he’s finally appreciating what Sam and Dean go through, but I’m thinking that Castiel is going to enjoy being a human eventually. We know that he definitely enjoys sex! (Even if it was with a reaper). His quotes in this episode were too funny! I particularly enjoyed “Do you ever tire of urinating? I'll never get used to it” and “I am really enjoying this place. Plentiful food. Go

Review: Supernatural Season 9, Episode 2: Devil May Care

I really enjoyed the premiere of season nine, so I felt a little let down by this episode. It’s not that it was bad; it just wasn’t all that exciting to me. I suppose the season needs some episodes that just function to set up the plot, but five minutes after the episode ended I had already forgotten what happened, so that tells me it wasn’t all that interesting. That being said, I did enjoy Abaddon complaining about Crowley being the King of Hell when he’s really only a sales person. If there’s one thing you can always count on, it’s the fact that everyone is capable of pettiness, even Knights of Hell. What I’m gathering from this episode is that Abaddon is probably going to be one of the big bads of this season. I’m guessing that her plan is to take over Hell, and I’m not sure how I feel about that. Abaddon certainly has less imagination than Crowley, so she might be a less dangerous opponent for the Winchesters in the long run. On the other hand, she’s much harder to kill. I was kin

Review: Supernatural Season 9, Episode 1: I Think I'm Gonna Like It Here

If all the episodes in season nine are as good as the first one, this is going to be a FANTASTIC season. First of all, I love any episode that includes the character of Death. He’s so great! So enigmatic. So captivating. Although, of course, I’m glad that Sam decided to live. Of course, there was never really any doubt that he was going to live because there are like six more seasons of this show, but not dying is always a good move. On the other hand, I thoroughly expect an absolute disaster when Sam learns that Dean saved his life through angelic possession. We actually had this exact same situation a few seasons ago when Dean decided not to tell Sam that he had lost his soul, and how did that turn out? Dean just refuses to learn that he should be honest with Sam. It’s SO frustrating. On the other side of the episode, I’m in love with the idea of all the angels falling to Earth and having to deal with Earth problems. I’m sure there will be all sorts of angel related dramas in this s

Review: Supernatural Season 8, Episode 23: Sacrifice

Now that is how you finish a season! I think that season eight was consistently good. It was kind of slow and steady, but this ending really packed a punch! And, I have to say that I haven’t enjoyed Supernatural so much since season five ended. Anyway! Let’s get into the episode. So much happened in this finale that I’m going to find it difficult to talk about everything, but let’s start with the biggest revelations first. We absolutely need to talk about Metatron. I have to give him credit, he was a lot more diabolical than I expected. Which is to say that I didn’t expect him to be diabolical at all. So, to recap, Metatron tricked Cas into thinking he was going to shut the gates of Heaven when he was actually going to expel all of the angels from Heaven. He also killed Naomi, which was a major positive if you ask me. He also neglected to tell Sam and Dean that Sam would die if he completed the demon trials. That was probably the worst thing he did. But, if you ask me, everything else

Review: Supernatural Season 8, Episode 22: Clip Show

I’m not even going to lie, guys, that was TRAGIC. We haven’t seen Sarah in seven seasons, but her death still managed to punch me in the gut. Come on writers! You can’t tell us she’s married with a one-year-old child and then kill her! This isn’t Game of Thrones ! Besides, she was the first girl that Sam got involved with after Jessica, and she remembers him with his stupid, 2005 haircut. You have to keep her around! I have to admit though that Crowley is taking the right tactic if he wants to get something from the Winchesters. There’s nothing more important to them than saving people. Of course, they’re not going to give him what he wants, but they’re not going to let him go around killing people either. So, I look forward to seeing how the Winchesters are going to resolve THAT situation. But, aside from all that DRAMA, I have to say that this episode was thoroughly enjoyable. The writers are really getting some good twists into the end of season eight, and I’m loving every minute of

Review: Supernatural Season 8, Episode 21: The Great Escapist

I don’t know how you’re feeling, but I’m pretty sure Crowly was born to direct. If being King of Hell doesn’t work out, Netflix should sign him; he could direct the sequel to Tiger King or something like that. Overall, I thought this was a really fun, really enjoyable episode. I love that Cas is back. (Although, I’m still disappointed in his choices in this season.) His trick with all the Biggerson's was very clever. Although, I would have been getting frostys at Wendy’s if I was him. Putting the angel tablet inside of him was also very clever, but not Clever enough for Crowley, as it turns out! I am getting tired of Naomi turning up and causing problems. I hope we can get rid of her somewhat soon! She has no right to keep appearing and reprogramming angel minds, as Ion pointed out. However, the conflict between her and Crowley is certainly adding tension to the show (as if we needed more of that!). However, I thought the best moment of the episode was meeting Metatron. Honestly,

Review: Supernatural Season 8, Episode 20: Pac-Man Fever

It’s been a long time since I liked an episode of Supernatural as much as I liked this episode. It was well and truly fantastic, and I think that that’s all thanks to Charlie. Seriously though, she’s quickly becoming my favorite recurring character on the show. I might even like her more than Castiel (gasp!). Could we just have Charlie in every episode? I mean, at this point she’s basically the demon-fighting younger sister that the Winchesters never had. I also liked that we finally got some backstory on Charlie in this episode. The story about her parents is absolutely heartbreaking, although it does explain her rootless lifestyle. I suppose we wouldn’t have the Charlie we have now if she had had a normal childhood, but I still teared up when I heard her reading the Hobbit to her mom at the end of the episode. Putting my obsession with Charlie Bradbury aside, I thought that the actual plot and monster of this episode were pretty good as well. I was really amused by Charlie and Dean

Review: Supernatural Season 8, Episode 19: Taxi Driver

Oh my goodness, this was an EMOTIONAL episode. I can’t believe Benny is GONE! Realizing that he wasn’t going to come back from purgatory was just unbelievably sad. I loved Benny as a character, and I thought he was a really good, interesting addition to the show. I’m disappointed that he won’t be reappearing because I thought the writers could have done a lot more with him, but I understand why Benny didn’t want to hang around anymore. I imagine his life was incredibly lonely and purposeless without Dean or other companions. I also want to give a shoutout to Benny for being generous enough to help Sam escape Purgatory. Considering the way Sam behaved, I wouldn’t have been surprised if Benny refused to help him. But, like I said, Benny is a GOOD guy. (Take note Sam!) Anyway, other stuff happened in this episode, so I should probably move on. In this episode, we learn about the second challenge: Sam must free an innocent soul from Hell and return it to Heaven. So, he has to sneak into He

Review: Supernatural Season 8, Episode 18: Freaks and Geeks

Oh my goodness, this episode made me so ANGRY! Don’t get me wrong, it was a really good episode, and I enjoyed it a lot, but I just can’t STAND teenagers with attitudes. I swear, listening to a teen telling an adult that they have it all figured out is the most provoking thing. I don’t think I was ever that bad when I was young, and I certainly wasn’t as annoying as the kids in this episode. Like, the total confidence that the teen hunters have that they’re right just drives me up the wall. I guess they’re good kids or whatever, but honestly I couldn’t stand any of them. That’s not to say that the adults in this episode were golden because Victor ENRAGED me. I mean, what on EARTH was that guy thinking? Working with a vampire? Killing innocent families? I mean, that guy was obviously deranged. There’s no way any sane hunter would behave like that. I think it’s probably good that he’s dead; if he had lived he might have caused more problems. On another note, I did enjoy the fact that we

Review: Supernatural Season 8, Episode 17: Goodbye, Stranger

Okay, now I regret saying that I wanted an episode with more plot. This episode almost had TOO much plot. So much happened! My head was spinning ! First of all, I think we should all have a moment of silence for Meg, who appears to be actually dead. Despite the fact that she was a demon, I actually liked her a lot. Plus, I’m pretty sure she was the longest running female character on the show, maybe the longest running recurring character on the show in general! Plus, I thought it was really cute that she called him Clarence. Their relationship was adorable. In other big news, it seems that Cas has finally shaken off Naomi’s influence, which is good. Especially since she wanted to KILL DEAN!!! Man, I’m still SO upset about that. I mean, manipulating Cas into trying to kill Dean is just cruel. Like, I don’t know if I’m being controversial here, but I think she’s an EVIL woman. I don’t like her at all. I also find it interesting that Crowley tried to make a deal with her. That doesn’t bo

Review: Supernatural Season 8, Episode 16: Remember the Titans

Okay, so this episode was kind of adorable. Basically, this episode is about the god Prometheus, who dies and is resurrected every day. The only problem is that Prometheus has forgotten who he is and has fathered a son who faces the same curse. Sam and Dean decide that they must break the curse in order to help the son. So, they summon and try to kill the god Zeus. They eventually succeed with the help of his daughter Artemis, but unfortunately Prometheus is killed in the process. Like I said, I find Prometheus and his little family to be kind of adorable, and I thought it was especially cute that Sam and Dean brought them to their secret bunker, but I did find this episode to be a little random. Like, Sam and Dean suddenly have to kill Greek gods? Like...okay? Did they not think about the repercussions of that at all? I would have been a little more cautious about destroying a pantheon. Also, they were very trusting of Prometheus and the people around him, which is unusual for them. I

Review: Supernatural Season 8, Episode 15: Man's Best Friend with Benefits

I don’t know what it was, but I felt kind of weird about this episode. Maybe it was the fact that it centered around a witch who was having a relationship with a woman who was also a dog. Maybe I’m a prude, but I found that to be pretty awkward. Honestly, this entire episode kind of missed the mark for me. I just didn’t find it to be very interesting. First of all, I think the whole episode would have been more enjoyable if we’d met James in a previous episode. They say that James saved their lives in the past, but I checked, and he actually hadn’t been on the show before. So, I’m not sure why the writers did that. They have eight seasons to work with; they could have easily have picked a character from the past to highlight. Secondly, I just wasn’t invested in the whole witch-on-witch crime concept of the episode. I guess the point was to show that not all witches are bad, but, to be honest, I dislike witches so much at this point that I just don’t really care how the show portrays th

Review: Supernatural Season 8, Episode 14: Trial and Error

I have to be honest, I didn’t really like this episode. I found it kind of boring. We’ve seen a lot of episodes with people who have made ten year deals with demons, and, honestly, I don’t think I needed to see another one. So, to me, that whole aspect of the episode was kind of a throw-away plot. I just wasn’t that interested in it. I am, however, very interested to learn that we now have a plan to close the Gates of Hell. I’m a little skeptical that the Winchesters are going to make that happen (mostly because we have like seven seasons left, and I can’t imagine that there will be no demons in any of them). I have to say that I am worried about Kevin. He doesn’t seem to be taking care of himself, and that concerns me. Hopefully he’ll be back to a normal life at some point; I really hope he doesn’t get permanently sucked into the Supernatural world. I’m also really enjoying the fact that Sam and Dean seem to have settled into the Men of Letters’ secret bunker. Dean having his own bed

Review: Supernatural Season 8, Episode 13: Everybody Hates Hitler

I hate to say it, but I was kind of bored by this episode. I just wasn’t that interested in the whole World War II, evil Nazi scheme plot. Honestly, I think that storyline has been done to death. It’s in so many movies! Indiana Jones and Captain America are just the tip of the iceberg. I’m just not interested in hearing about any more supernatural Nazi crimes that writers have invented. What they did in real life was bad enough without elaboration. Anyway, now that I’ve dismissed the whole Nazi necromancer (ick) plot, I should say that I hope we see Aaron Bass again because I did enjoy learning about the Judah Initiative. Maybe Aaron and his golem can become hunters too! Honestly, I don’t know what else you would do with a golem. Speaking of golems, I have to say that the golem in this episode was very unusual. I’ve read tons of books with golems in them, and none of them speak out loud, so I’m not sure what’s going on with this golem. It’s very strange. Sometimes, I don’t mind when Su

Review: Supernatural Season 8, Episode 12: As Time Goes By

So, after eight seasons, I finally feel like I know/understand what’s going on with the Winchester family. To which I say, it’s about time! So, Heaven paired up Mary and John because they represented the hunters and the Men of Letters (which sounds pretty pretentious to me, I have to say). So, they were basically bred for strength and intelligence, which is both incredibly weird and also makes a lot of sense. There’s a reason that the Winchesters are super hunters. Anyway, I really, really enjoyed this episode. It was so interesting to see John’s father and understand the way that their father grew up. The pieces are falling into place, if you know what I mean. I am sad that Henry died because I feel like it could have been really cool to have him show up again. However, I have to say that I don’t relly like Henry. His obnoxious, stuck-up attitude about hunters was really annoying, and I didn’t like that he kept treating Sam and Dean like they were stupid. That being said, I thought th

Review: Supernatural Season 8, Episode 11: LARP and the Real Girl

Oh my goodness, this was a FANTASTIC episode! I nearly fell off the couch because I was laughing so much! Seriously though, I thought this episode was great, especially after the stress in the previous episode. There were five things that were really good about it: Charlie Charlie Charlie Charlie Dean wearing medieval clothes and giving the speech from Braveheart . Seriously though, I ADORE Charlie. I wish she was in every episode! She just fits in so well with the Winchesters, like she’s the feisty younger sister they never had. I’m also just really glad that we have a good, strong female character on the show (as opposed to Amelia (no shade to Amelia, but, also, shade to Amelia)). I also just loved the little world that they set up in this episode! It was so fun and cool, and I really enjoy that Dean just got so INTO it! Dean has this tendency to really embed himself in whatever subculture they encounter, which is an interesting psychological trait, but also really fun. A

Review: Supernatural Season 8, Episode 10: Torn and Frayed

Okay, it’s official. It took eight seasons, but this show has broken me emotionally. The title “Torn and Frayed” is a really good descriptor of what happened because this episode left me feeling like I should burst into tears. Seriously, I just feel wretched about everything in this episode. First of all, I am HEARTBROKEN—simply heartbroken—that Castiel killed that other angel, Alfie. For some reason or another, that was just really painful for me. I think it was the fact that they had just spent all this time rescuing this person who had been horribly tortured, and then Castiel turned around and killed him without really knowing why. It’s just kind of shocking and hard to accept. To that end, I hate Naomi even more now. The fact that she’s erasing Cas’ memories and making him do things that he doesn’t want to do is really tough to accept. It also seems like she did something to torture him, which concerns me. Anyway, I’ve no idea what her end game is in this situation, but I have a fe

Review: Supernatural Season 8, Episode 9: Citizen Fang

Oh my goodness, I do not know how to feel about this episode! I mean, so much happened and there’s so much to unpack! To me, it felt so much longer than forty minutes. There were so many twists and turns, and there was so much DRAMA. It was like a little movie! (Side note: now that I write this, I realize that I liked the episode a lot.) Okay, so I want to preface all of this by saying that everyone acted badly in this episode. First off, Martin was completely off his rocker. I don’t know why Sam thought he was sane enough to hunt, but I can tell you with certainty that he is not . The fact that he threatened Elizabeth in order to ensnare Benny is beyond insane, and I wish Sam could have seen it happen so that he realized how badly he screwed up. Speaking of Sam, his behavior was also reprehensible. He wants to kill Benny, who literally saved his brother and isn’t hurting anyone!! Now, I get that Sam doesn’t believe that Benny isn’t hurting anyone, but I don’t get why Sam finds that so

If I had to describe this episode in one word, it would be adorable. Seriously, I thought it was just really cute, and that’s not something I often say about Supernatural . First of all, Castiel is just too precious for this world. When he said, “I’m going to be a hunter!”, my heart just melted. Like, Castiel has had his issues in the past, but he so obviously wants to be a good person, and it just hurts my heart to watch him try to deal with that. Plus, Castiel trying to interrogate the cat was just too cute for words. (It was almost as cute as when Castiel said he would watch over Dean while he slept (cue the aww!)). I think anyone with any experience of cats would know that they would never crack under interrogation. Any self respecting cat would just blink at you in a disapproving fashion and lick themselves. (Be aware that I’m typing this as my cat sits on my lap, so I speak from a place of experience). I thought that the actual plot of the episode was good. I enjoyed the who

Review: Supernatural Season 8, Episode 7: A Little Slice of Kevin

YASS! Cas is back! I’m glad they didn’t make us wait any longer. The show just isn’t the same without him. However, I am concerned about what’s going to happen with Cas. First of all, I’m disturbed that Castiel chose to stay in purgatory to punish himself. I mean, I get that he wanted to punish himself for his wrong doing, but I feel like he should have told Dean that he intended to stay. Putting all that heartache on Dean wasn’t right. I also don’t get what purpose staying in purgatory serves. I suppose that it made Castiel feel better about his own actions. However, if he really wanted to atone for his wrongdoing, he should have tried to do good in the world. Also, he didn’t seem to care about his wrongdoing at the end of season seven, so I don’t really get his decisions here. I’m also very irked that the show is setting up another conspiracy in Heaven. I mean, personally, I find all these Heavenly plots very boring. I don’t care if Naomi (whoever she is. I feel like she might be an

Review: Supernatural Season 8, Episode 6: Southern Comfort

Oh my goodness, the DRAMA of this episode. It was almost too much for me, and I thrive on television drama. Like, seriously, Sam and Dean need to go to family counseling because they have a LOT going on. Okay, let’s get into the episode. I didn’t really care for the main plot (in case you missed it, this episode centered around the ghost of confederate soldier who forced people to seek revenge against those who wronged them); however, I do think that it was important because it really exposed how much has changed in Sam and Dean’s relationship. There is clearly a lot of bitterness at play, and I honestly don’t know how they’re going to get passed it. I mean, there are about seven more seasons, so obviously they reconcile to some degree, but I can’t imagine that they’re ever going to have the same closeness again. I do have to say that I’m mostly on Dean’s side in this argument (if we’re taking sides). The fact that Sam didn’t look for him is just really, really difficult to accept. I m

Review: Supernatural Season 8, Episode 5: Blood Brother

Okay, well now things are getting JUICY. This episode was a nice change of pace after the last two disappointing episodes of the season. We’re finally learning more about Benny, more about Sam’s relationship with Amelia, and more about what happened in Purgatory. It’s all FASCINATING. Speaking of Purgatory, it’s really starting to look like Cas was captured by Leviathans, isn’t it? I’m sure he’ll be back at some point because I don’t think they’d kill him off in that way, but, in the meantime, it’s looking pretty grim for Castiel. Anyway, the big focus of this episode was Benny. His vampire pirate story is really something else! Someone could make some big bucks turning that idea into a teen romance series. But, I digress. Benny has decided to hunt down and kill his vampire maker before he kills him, which, fortunately, he is successful in doing. But seriously, can we talk about how fun it is to have Benny as a character? I love that Dean is friends with a monster now. It really shows

Review: Supernatural Season 8, Episode 4: Bitten

Okay, so I’m not going to spend too much time reviewing this episode because it was BAD. I mean, really, really not good. “Bugs” may have been better, and most people agree that that’s THE worst episode of the series. I mean, did I miss something here? Is there some deeper meaning to this episode that I’m not aware of? There was nothing that was meaningful or impactful in this episode in any way. NOTHING. It all just felt deeply irrelevant. Like, I don’t understand why I’m supposed to care about these random characters. I watch the show for Sam and Dean. I don’t care about the point of view of randos in this show. So, basically, this episode is a home video made by a group of college kids about becoming werewolves. The only problem is that the home video lasts for literally the entire episode. Like, I think it would have been a cool effect if the video was like five minutes, but I could note STAND forty minutes of these people’s idiocy. Seriously! Why was everyone in this episode unb

Review: Supernatural Season 8, Episode 3: Heartache

Mayan corn god, huh? Well, THAT’S a new one. I give them points for creativity in coming up with the “monster” for this episode. However, I gotta be honest, I didn’t really like this episode. It just felt kind of weird, ya know? I’m not sure what it was, but something was off with this episode. There was no emotional resonance, and it didn’t seem to fit in with the arc of the season. Actually, it was really a let down after the first two episodes. Also, was it really necessary to tie this episode in with Mayan culture? As far as I can tell (based on my Wikipedia research), the god they referenced isn’t even really part of the Mayan pantheon. Plus, if Brick Holmes really was an ancient Mayan athlete, why does he look like a stereotypical white guy? All I’m saying is that it seems like this episode was in bad taste. Plus, it centered around sports, which is always the quickest way to bore me. Anyway, in general, I’m just going to say that the show could have done without this episode. It

Review: Supernatural Season 8, Episode 2: What's Up, Tiger Mommy?

So, this was another really solid, entertaining episode that moved the plot along. After seasons and seven being somewhat mediocre (no shade to Supernatural ; I wouldn’t be spending all this time reviewing the show if I didn’t like it), I have to say that I’m really digging the direction that season eight is taking. I’m really looking forward to seeing where it goes. Anyway, the main focus of this episode was Kevin Tran, his mother, and the demon tablet. Naturally, the Winchesters are trying to help Kevin secure the tablet so that he can tell them how to banish all the demons from the world. We learn in this episode that the tablet has been stolen, so Kevin, his mom, and the Winchesters travel to some sort of magical auction of the weird and wacky to try to get it back. Obviously, they don’t get it back because that would be way too easy. However, I assume that tracking down this tablet is going to be a main focus this season. I have to say that I am really enjoying Kevin’s mom; she wa

Review: Supernatural Season 8, Episode 1: We Need to Talk About Kevin

Now this is what I call a season premiere! Seriously, there is sooooo much to talk about in this episode. I don’t know where to begin! Scratch that. I lied. I know where to begin. Before we talk about all the serious stuff that happened, I feel the need to address Sam’s hair. WHY DOESN’T HE BELIEVE IN HAIRCUTS??? Like, I don’t know who is responsible for Sam’s hair, but that person has a lot to answer for. I mean, is it the producers who are insisting that he have long hair? I find it difficult to believe that Jared likes having his hair like that. But, hey, stranger things have happened, right? Seriously though, it looks like he has a lion’s mane! And Sam would be so attractive with short hair. It just breaks my heart. Dean, on the other hand, is looking incredibly good. When he turned up in the beginning of the episode with dirt on his face, I was like “is it just me, or did Dean get hotter?” I mean, I don’t even know how that’s possible, but somehow it happened! Anyway, back to ser

Review: Supernatural Season 7, Episode 23: Survival of the Fittest

I have mixed thoughts on this season finale. In some ways, I’m satisfied with the way the episode wrapped things up, but I also feel like things were a bit rushed. Like, for example, I feel like it was way too easy to kill Dick Roman. Like, don’t get me wrong, I’m glad the stuff with the leviathans is over, but they crammed way too much stuff into this episode. I mean, we had demon contract negotiation, the creation of a mystical weapon, Bobby’s death, and the destruction of the leviathans all in one episode. TOO MUCH. I feel like we needed an entire episode just to say goodbye to Bobby. I know that he’s going full vengeful spirit and all that, but I wasn’t quite ready to let go of him. Not yet. Although, I am SUPER disappointed that he decided to possess that maid. That was shameful behavior, Bobby. Shameful. Still, it’s tough for me to accept that Bobby is dead and gone forever. It really hurts me, you know? However, aside from Bobby’s death, the rest of the episode was a bit boring

Review: Supernatural Season 7, Episode 22: There Will Be Blood

This might make me a bad Supernatural fan, but I think I’ve had it with vampires. Seriously, every time they’re on the show things get weighed down and tedious. I just don’t want to deal with them anymore; I can’t be bothered to follow all those plot points. Like, take this episode for instance, I couldn’t care less about all the vampire politics happening in the alpha’s palace. I think I absorbed enough of that when I was reading Twilight at age twelve. (Although, I do like that the alpha vampire told Sam and Dean that he’d see them next season. You have to admit that that was cute.) There! I said it. And now I wash my hands of vampires. So, let’s see, what else is going on in this episode? Well, obviously, we have to be concerned about Bobby. I appreciate that he’s still around in the show, but the fact that he possessed the maid was very disturbing. I’m very disappointed that Bobby is going over to the dark side, but I guess I can’t be too surprised. I mean, if I died the way that

Review: Supernatural Season 7, Episode 21: Reading Is Fundamental

Now this is what I call an EPISODE. Honestly, it was soooo good. It had basically everything: humor, drama, emotional moments, and it really contributed to the plot too! Plus, there were just so many good LINES. “I'm in advanced placement. Please don't kill me” is going to be my new catchphrase (just in case you’re wondering, I was in advanced placement in high school, but I was nowhere near as bright and motivated as our dude Kevin). Not to mention that everything Cas said was hilarious. I love him calling Meg to tell her that he’s surrounded by angry dogs. The random weirdness of it all is just perfection. Speaking of Meg and Cas, their relationship has taken a somewhat adorable turn. I like Meg as the reluctant care taker, even though I am 100% confident that she’s just trying to use Castiel. But still, who would have thought that a muddled, mentally ill angel and a snarky demon could be so cute together? We should take a few minutes to talk about Cas, I suppose. I think thi

Edward really is an idiot isn't he? Seriously! I'm amazed he's managed to survive as king as long as he has. He has no sense; and he certainly doesn't have fashion sense either. Charging the walls of Winchester like an angry toddler was the absolute height of foolishness. I continue to be disappointed by him in this season. How did Alfred's son get to be so stupid?  On the other hand, almost everyone else is impressing me.  My girl Eadith was AMAZING in this episode. Have I mentioned before how much I like her? The way she killed that Dane and freed Uhtred and the guys was so incredibly brave. I could never have done that;  come to think of it, I don't think I would even have thought of that. I'm not good with ideas under pressure. Eadith did let herself down a little bit because she revealed who she was, but that was a difficult moment for her, so I'll forgive it. I imagine she's going to get through this alive because she NEEDS to reunite with Fina

Review: Supernatural Season 7, Episode 20: The Girl with the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo

My friends, I think Supernatural may have reached its pinnacle. I simply cannot imagine how any episode could be better than this one. I mean, come on, it has everything! There’s suspense, mystery, action, humor, and fun new characters. I LOVED it. Speaking of things I loved, I have to give the writers mad props for creating Charlie’s character. She is AMAZING. Felicia Day was a great choice for the character, she really hit it out of the park. I know that Charlie told the Winchesters never to contact her again, but I really hope they do because she’s just such a great character, and she has mad skills. Like, she beat Frank in coding. That’s impressive. And, like, she’s practically a hunter already! Okay. Now that I’ve GUSHED, we should talk about the actual episode. In this episode, the Winchesters discover that someone is trying to hack into Frank’s hard drive. They track it back to Charlie, who is a programmer for Dick Roman’s company. Dean and Sam manage to convince her that levi

Review: The Last Kingdom Season 4 Episode 8

Every time I watch this show, I'm reminded of how tough life used to be for humans. Don't get me wrong, life is still tough for many humans around the world, but you don't get bands of marauding Danes with fire arrows anymore, do you? I know that we've had almost four whole seasons of violence on this show, but I still find that I can be amazed by the level of brutality that characters produce. It's simply jaw-dropping, isn't it? Like, that river of fire almost made me want to cry, and I'm not even rooting for the Welsh in this show!  Plus, Brida was just a SAVAGE in this episode. Don't get me wrong, I sort of love that about her. If we've learned anything, it's that women have to find ways to defend themselves on this show. But, her execution of that Welsh nobleman was a masterpiece of cruelty. I mean, he definitely deserved it, but I shudder to think what will happen to Uhtred if Brida ever finds him again.  The feud between Uhtred and Brida is

Review: Supernatural Season 7, Episode 19: Of Grave Importance

Oh my goodness, BOBBY! BOBBY! Bobby is breaking my heart in this episode! Like, I can’t even deal with all these feelings. I am both really happy that Bobby is still with them and heartbroken that he is a ghost and will eventually deteriorate and become a monster. Plus, I’m angry at Dean and Sam for not accepting ghost Bobby, but, at the same time, I do agree that he’s violating the natural order of things. Like I said, I don’t know how to feel about it. This episode was also kind of disturbing as a whole. In case you need a recap, Sam and Dean begin investigating some sort of ghost mansion where another hunter—Annie—has gone missing. It turns out that the former owner of the mansion, a ghost, kills anyone who comes into the mansion and holds on to their ghost in order to fuel himself with ghostly energy. This murderer ghost has a secret room where he stores the bodies so that no one will be able to set the ghosts free. It turns out that Annie is now a ghost in the house, and she work

Review: Supernatural Season 7, Episode 18: Party On, Garth

So, I think the important takeaway from this episode is….BOBBY IS BACK! (!!!!!!!!) I mean, I kind of suspected that he was a ghost based on some other things that happened over the course of the past few episodes, but STILL! I almost can’t believe it. It was kind of shocking to see ghost Bobby just chilling out in their motel room. It gave my heart a bit of a jolt. I feel bad that he’s not able to talk to them or tell them that he’s still around. However, it might be for the best because I’m not sure how Sam and Dean would react to seeing Bobby in the flesh again. My assumption is that he’s attached to the flask, so Dean had better hold on tight to that thing! Anyway. I imagine they’re going to address the whole “Bobby is a ghost” situation in greater detail later on, so let me actually discuss what happened in the episode. In case you missed it, this episode revolves around a series of mysterious deaths perpetrated by a Japanese alcohol spirit. It seems that the owners of a brewery ch

Alert the presses! CAS IS BACK! Guys, I cannot describe how much this excites me. I suspected that Cas wasn’t permanently dead (because he’s died and come back so many times), but I was still thrilled to see him back on the show. I know the last time we saw him he was a vengeful god, but I’ve already forgiven him everything. No one can stay angry with Castiel. I mean, he’s CAS. The minute they started talking about Emmanuel the healer, I was like “that’s going to be Cas, amiright?” And, I was right! And, I gotta say, amnesia Castiel was ADORABLE. He’s like a sweet little baby who just wants to help people! INFANT CAS. I kind of wish he could have stayed like that. Plus, I think this is the only time we’ve seen him wearing something besides a trenchcoat. He’s rocking that sweater. Anyway, I’m feeling some kind of way about this episode. It was just so EMOTIONAL! First of all, you had Sam in a psychiatric ward, almost DYING because of Lucifer! I mean, that was pretty horrifying. (Althoug

Review: The Last Kingdom Season 4 Episode 7

Well, things move fast in Mercia, don't they? To be honest, I had a hard time following all the coming and goings from Aegelesburg and who was ploting against whom, but I think the end result is that everyone is more-or-less back where they were a few episode. The notable exception is that Edward has finally decided to behave with *some* degree of logic (although his hair and clothes still look dumb, if you ask me) and Uhtred is on his way to becoming Lord of Mercia, which doesn't really seem to be his style. Don't get me wrong, I think he would be a great ruler, but there's nothing that really binds Uhtred to Mercia, except Ã†thelflæd. Speaking of Æthelflæd, I really felt for her in this episode. She's had a tough couple of weeks! I hope she has some time to hang out with her daughter and relax. Although, the Danes seem to be invading again, so she'll probably have to be on the battlefield again in an hour or so.  Talking about the Danes, I am glad that Brida FI

Review: Supernatural Season 7, Episode 16: Out with the Old

Man, those real estate agents were brutal. I mean, I’ve had bad bosses in my life, but I’ve never wanted to eat one of them! On the other hand, the cannibalistic impulse of leviathans is probably the only reason Sam and Dean are alive right now. Plus, Joyce and George were VASTLY entertaining; I love their forays in office politics while trying to take over the world, one shady property deal at a time. They are hilariously incompetent. In case you need a recap, in this episode Sam and Dean investigate a series of cursed objects that have all come from the same shop. Fortunately, Sam and Dean are able to round up all the items before the carnage becomes too bad (although there is one BRUTAL ballet slipper murder). In the process, however, they learn that there are some suspicious real estate deals going on. All the stores on the street are being sold to one particular agent (Joyce, she of the obnoxious coffee order). After some investigating—with the help of Fran—Sam and Dean learn that

Review: Supernatural Season 7, Episode 15: Repo Man

I’ve tolerated a lot of creepy and disturbing stuff from Supernatural , but this episode crossed a line for me. THEY KILLED THE DOG! If there is one thing I can’t tolerate from movies or TV shows, it’s killing the pets. Now, THAT is going too far. That’s not to say that the rest of the episode wasn’t disturbing because it absolutely was. In case you need a recap, this episode centers around a case that Dean and Sam worked four years previously. They encountered a demon-possessed man who was killing women in horrifying ways. They were able to rid him of the demon, but years later the deaths started again, leading Sam and Dean to believe that the demon was back. It turns out that that wasn’t the case though. Instead, the man who the demon had possessed decided to start killing women on his own. So...THAT’S DISTURBING. The man, Jeffrey, captures Dean and reveals that he always wanted to kill women, but didn’t have the confidence to do it until he became possessed. He decides to summon the

Review: The Last Kingdom Season 4 Episode 6

Well, that was STRESSFUL! Let me count all the opportunities for disaster we had in this episode. 1) The literal plague, 2) a succession crisis, 3) near misses and failed meet ups, and 4) THE DANES ARE BACK.  I don't know about you, but I think the plot and the political drama have really been heating up in the past couple of episodes.  This episode really focused on the political crisis that is developing in Mercia. Edward's choice for king has fallen through, the aldermen are beginning to resent his interference, and the heir to the throne might be dying of the plague. Meanwhile, the king's widow is in the wind, and it's just been revealed that the old king was actually murdered. Not looking too promising, is it? Most of this episode switched back and forth between Uhtred traveling with his warriors and a gaggle of royal children and Edward trying and failing to come to term with the disaster brewing in Mercia.  Watching Uhtred and his team stomp through the woods on

Review: Supernatural Season 7, Episode 14: Plucky Pennywhistle's Magical Menagerie

This episode was disturbing...but also fun? Like, I don’t know how else to describe being impaled by a unicorn. In case you missed it, in this episode the Winchesters investigate a string of strange deaths and discover that children’s worst fears are coming to life and killing their parents. (I know, I can’t imagine what child would be afraid of a unicorn either). They trace the deaths back to Plucky Pennywhistle's, which seems to be kind of like Chuck E. Cheese. It turns out that one of the employees basically went crazy because he didn’t get a promotion and decided to use hoodoo to murder parents that he didn’t like. He tries to kill Sam too (using killer clowns!!!), but fortunately Dean is able to stop him in time. However, the clowns do explode, covering Sam with glitter, which, I gotta say, was pre-tty hilarious. Dean had the line of the episode with this one: “You look like you got attacked by some PCP-crazed strippers.” Like I said, this episode was kind of dark, but also en
