Review: Supernatural Season 2, Episode 14: Born Under a Bad Sign

I did NOT like this episode. Don’t get me wrong, the plot was good and everything (although all those jump cuts in the beginning of the episode almost gave me whiplash), it just made me so anxious to see Sam get possessed. Sam is like a puppy dog or a bunny rabbit, you know? He’s so sweet and cute and harmless (well, not to ghosts, but you get my vibe). This episode was like being attacked by your floppy-eared rabbit (like those bunny vampire books kids use to read back in the day where the rabbits suck your blood (Shout out to you if can remember that)). It was just an incredibly painful episode to watch. In case you need a reminder, in this episode Sam becomes possessed by the demon that possessed Meg in season 1. Demon-Sam essentially goes on a bender, disappears for a week, and ends up killing another hunter. He reunites with Dean, who is (understandably) concerned to learn that Sam has gone over to the dark side. The demon-Sam tries to convince Dean to kill his brother,

That episode was so DRAMATIC that I am now shaking. Literally shaking!!! Like, I can't. I just can't. I know I've said this before, but I do not know how I'm supposed to deal with this show on an emotional level. It's too stressful! Everyone in this show is just insane! IN-SANE! The craziness is next level. I cannot deal with it. It's too much! Okay. Okay. Let me calm down. First of all, Tommy had better be okay. If that creepy, evil priest and his creepy, evil friends permanently damaged one hair on Tommy's head, I am going to have some THINGS to say. I assume he's going to be okay because a) Tommy has some REVENGE to take and b) there are at least two more seasons of this show, and Tommy needs to be in them. (On a more cheerful note, Cillian Murphy did an excellent job of acting like he was in extreme pain and mental anguish; it was very convincing.) Second of all, Tommy had better know what he's doing. I get the sense that the PBs

Review: Supernatural Season 2, Episode 13: Houses of the Holy

I was a little distressed at the beginning of this episode to see that Sam and Dean are still walking around as themselves. You’d think that after what happened in the last episode they’d try to disguise themselves a bit, but apparently not. I mean, come on, Dean should at least be wearing sunglasses or something! I’m glad they acknowledged that they’re on the run and that Dean needs to be inconspicuous (which is why he hangs out in the motel room with the vibrating bed while Sam works; how funny was that ?), but I feel like they’re not as concerned as they should be. Personally, I would take the situation a little more seriously if the FBI had set up a team just to track me down. Anyway, let me talk about the actual episode before I get too distracted. Overall, I thought this was one of the most moving episodes in the show so far. I mean, it had some emotional IMPACT. Like, we get into some deep stuff in this episode. Sam and Dean talk about believing in a higher power, faith, a

Okay, so I'm going to need Cillian Murphy and Paul Anderson  (Arthur) to stop with the acting because their collective talent is going 👏 to 👏melt 👏 my 👏brain! I'm serious! They took the dial of acting and they cranked it up to 5000. What an episode! Like, this episode had all the cinematic beauty and emotional resonance of like ten thousand movies rolled together, and wasn't anywhere near the best episode in the history of the show. That being said, it was a thing of great and terrible beauty (to misquote that wand seller guy from Harry Potter). First of all, that beginning scene with the creepier version of "Red Right Hand" and Tommy watching the fire was HAUNTING. I shall be haunted by it, just you wait and see! And then we had some of the best family scenes that we've had on this show in a while. I enjoyed seeing them all arguing in the kitchen together, especially with Polly telling John and Arthur not to swear in front of the kids. Like, has

Review: Supernatural Season 2, Episode 12: Nightshifter

So, I guess Sam and Dean are on the FBI’s most wanted list now. That should make their job easier, on top of the demons and monsters and shapeshifters (oh my!). But seriously, I was impressed that they were able to escape the bank with the Feds and a monster after them. I mean, the DRAMA of it all was next level. I mean, it was almost too much DRAMA for me! (Just kidding, you know I love the drama). When Sam and Dean came out of the bank at the end of the episode wearing the SWAT uniforms, I wanted to stand up and applaud. That was such a great twist! And, I love it when Dean stares straight ahead and is just like “we are so screwed.” I mean, ten points to Dean for that one-liner; the delivery was just PERFECT. Plus, the music choice was A+; when they started playing “Renegade” in the background, I knew it was going to be a good ending. However, I think “so screwed” is a bit of an understatement. Like, I believe in Sam and Dean’s collective hunter abilities, but I doubt they’

Review: Supernatural Season 2, Episode 11: Playthings

THE DOLLS. THE DOLLS!!!!! Why were the dolls so creepy in this episode??? AHHHHH! Like, nothing supernatural even happened with them, they were just super weird. I like I read somewhere that Jensen Ackles thought they were creepy too, so I’m in good company. I kept expecting them to move or something. *Shudder.* However, aside from the dolls, I didn’t find this episode to be too scary. I know that a lot of people talk about how dark “Playthings” is, but I personally didn’t see it that way. If anything, I thought this episode had kind of a happy (emphasis on kind of; someone still died) ending. Whoever heard of such a thing on Supernatural ??? Don’t get me wrong, it was horrifying when the little girl ghost (what is it with little girl ghosts in this show??) tried to drown the little girl in the pool. However, it seems fitting to me that the two sisters are now together in death. We know that Rose didn’t want to leave the Inn and that her health caused her to suffer, so theoretically sh

Peaky Blinders: Season 3 Episode 2 Review

Why is Tommy never allowed to be happy, hm? Throughout this show, he gets like two smiles per season, and then the rest of the time something horrible happens to put him back in a dark, dark place. WHY? WHY? WHY? Why isn't Tommy allowed to be happy????? I mean, I assume Grace is dead this time. For real. Like, I don't think she's coming back from that huge bullet wound. Ugh, this frustrates me so much! They were going to have a lovely life together, and now Tommy is going to be completely destroyed by this. Even for me, this is too much of a plot twist. Like, how am I supposed to deal with this on a mental and emotional level??? Okay, okay, maybe I am too invested in this show. Let me take a moment to calm down. Anyway, this episode largely focuses on Tommy's dealings with the Russians. As I noted in the first episode, I am really not into this story line, which might mean that I'm really not into season three. As I've said before, I feel that

Review: Supernatural Season 2, Episode 10: Hunted

Okay, so let me get this straight: before John died, he told Dean that he might have to kill Sam???? How MESSED UP is that! I mean, how am I supposed to handle that information! How is DEAN supposed to handle that information? I mean, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, John Winchester was not a good parent. I’m sorry if that’s an unpopular opinion, but you just can’t put something like that on your child. It’s not fair to anyone. Plus, you know that, no matter what happens, there is no way Dean is ever going to kill Sam. No wonder he’s been acting weird all season; can you imagine the emotional toll this information is taking on him! Not to mention Sam! How is SAM going to deal with this situation? This is just so messed up. I can’t even. I just can’t. What is this show doing to my emotions??? I am so angry and STRESSED and sad all at the same time! Okay, okay. I’m taking a deep breath, and I’m going to try to talk about this episode in a calm way. So, after Dean tells Sam the

Well, this was an interesting episode. On one hand, I really enjoyed the wedding aspect of the episode. I am SUPREMELY glad that Tommy and Grace are together; I like that they kind of made us wait to figure out who Tommy was marrying. It could have been Grace or I suppose it could have been May (speaking of which, I wish we could have gotten some sort of final scene between them. I liked her character). Anyway, I'm glad Tommy's marrying Grace; they're meant to be together. I also found the wedding scenes in general to be vastly entertaining. More about that in a minute. On the other hand, I am annoyed by the time jump in this episode. Once again. To me it feels disorienting, especially given the fact that there was plenty of interesting material to make a season three that could have directly followed season two. And now, I'm left with a lot of unanswered questions: why did it take Grace and Tommy so long to get married? How did Arthur meet his weird wife (serious

Review: Supernatural Season 2, Episode 9: Croatoan

Okay, I need someone to explain to me what happened in this episode. I mean, I know what happened in this episode, but, seriously, I have no idea what happened in this episode. I was just BAFFLED the entire time. When the screen went to the credits, I was just like “Whut?” I mean, was I supposed to have some deep important takeaway from that? I sure hope note. Like, it was such a strange episode I can’t decide if I like it or not. I’m going to guess that I didn’t because the weirdness of it just made me frustrated. So, I guess the end of the episode suggests that Sam is being tested by the demons in some way. But, why? How? He couldn’t be infected by the virus...and...what does that mean? How is that supposed to be relevant to us as an audience in any way. I don’t get it. Also, if they wanted to test Sam, why infect the whole town and engineer that whole little drama? I guess the excuse is they’re demons, but it still doesn’t make much sense to me. Why did everyone have to disappear? D

Review: Supernatural Season 2, Episode 8: Crossroad Blues

I was HERE for the music in this episode. It was just deliciously good. That Delta blues sound? It was A+ perfection. Supernatural may stress me out and bring me to tears sometimes, but boy do they know how to put together a soundtrack. Anyway, in this episode, Sam and Dean are investigating the deaths of two professionals. They learn that they were killed by hellhounds after they made deals with a demon to have success in their careers in exchange for their souls. They learn that the hellhounds are after another man, who sold his soul to keep his wife from dying of cancer. Dean is initially reluctant to help him, but they eventually decide to try to save him. Dean summons the crossroads demon, who has been making deals with everyone, and lures her into a devil’s trap, which he only lets her out of after she agrees to let the man go. This scene is interesting because, for a moment, I thought that Dean really was going to make a deal with the demon. So far this season has focused a lot

Oh my goodness, THE DRAMA! THE D-R-A-M-A. As I was watching this episode, I actually had to pause a couple of times to let the sheer dramatic-ness of the situations wash over me. It was just all so DRAMATIC. Okay, let me take a deep breath, and then we can actually talk about the episode. First things first, Tommy and Grace are getting married! What gift should I send to the wedding, I am so unbelievably happy for them. Well, I think I'm mostly happy for Tommy, but Grace can get a share of that too. At least, I assume they're getting married. Tommy said it out loud, which means it will eventually come true. Although, I'm not sure if Grace knows they're getting married yet. And what are they going to do about that nice man from Poughkeepsie??????? The other problem with this situation is Grace only seemed interested in getting back with Tommy after she knew she was pregnant with his baby. Like, did she not love him before she knew that?? Or, maybe the pregn

Review: Supernatural Season 2, Episode 7: The Usual Suspects

Oh man this was a good episode! Like, I enjoyed this to piec-es. The best part was Dean’s confession. He was like, “I’m an Aquarius...and I didn’t actually kill anyone, that was just a shapeshifter that looked like me.” I died laughing. It was such a good moment! Plus, Sam’s escape was *perfection*. I love that they out-smarted the police here. Those Winchesters, always one step ahead! Anyway, like I said, I really enjoyed this episode. It was interesting to come across a situation in which the ghost is trying to be helpful (well, sort of). It’s always more interesting when it’s the human who is the real villain. In case you need a refresher, the monster in this episode is a crooked cop who has all sorts of shady dealings. He’s forced to kill a woman named Claire to cover up his misdeeds, and after her death she begins to appear as an omen to the other people he has to kill to cover up his crimes. I gotta say that the death omen was genuinely frightening, mostly because she was covered

Peaky Blinders: Season 2 Episode 5 Review

STOP EVERYTHING! Grace is back! Oh my goodness, I am over the MOON that Grace and Tommy are an item once again. And, before you tell me that this episode could have been a one night stand, let me tell you that I have seen enough TV shows to know that they did not reintroduce her character just for that. GRACE! I'm so excited. No doubt, their relationship is going to be extremely messy and complicated (because of May and her husband, etc. etc.), but I don't care. First of all, I have to comment on the fact that Tommy has some CONFIDENCE, or, maybe he just knows Grace really well. Like, his whole opening gambit with Grace to skip talking about the past was a bold move, considering she could have walked out at any moment. But, of course, he really just wants to take her out to meet movie stars. It's an interesting reunion, but also kind of sweet? I don't know. I did, however, LOVE that Tommy called Campbell to tell him that he was about to sleep with Grace. Was

Review: Supernatural Season 2, Episode 6: No Exit

I shipped Jo and Dean so hard in this episode I cannot even begin to describe it to you. Can’t you just them as a hunter couple, raising their hunter kids? It would be the perfect spin off show!!! Seriously though, it’s really nice to have a female hunter on the show. Jo really added a lot to the episode. Now, we just need Sam to find a nice hunter girl, and they can do hunter double dates and kill monsters instead of going to the movies. In case you need a recap, in this episode, Sam and Dean arrive at the Roadhouse, only to learn that Jo has come across a case and she wants to go after a spirit that’s killing young women. Her mom obviously doesn’t want her to go, so Sam and Dean decide to go after the spirit instead. When they arrive in Philadelphia, they learn that Jo has decided to investigate the case anyway. Working together, they learn that the spirit haunting the apartment building is H.H. Holmes, who is actually a real life and HORRIFYING serial killer, who is legitimately ter

Review: Supernatural Season 2, Episode 5: Simon Said

Guys, I love Andy. Can he be a regular on this show? I just love that he bops around in his van and is just like, “I’m happy, I have everything I need.” I feel like Sam and Dean could majorly benefit from that healthy, well-adjusted mind set. You know who does NOT have a healthy, well-adjusted state of mind? Andy’s evil twin, Ansem. The fact that there is an evil twin in this episode just gives 👏 me 👏LIFE. I feel like evil twins are a plot trope that get made fun of a lot, but, seriously, I could do with more of them in fiction. It’s just so DRAMATIC! Anyway, I don’t know who dropped that twin on his head when he was a baby, but he’s messed up in the mind. Like, who thinks to themselves “I’d like to get closer to my sibling, ergo, I will kill everyone around them?” Messed up people, that’s who. I mean, I get that the yellow eyed demon put him up to it, but still. In any case, before I go off on a rant, let’s quickly recap what happened in this episode. Sam has another vision, which

I 👏have 👏so 👏many 👏 things 👏to 👏say 👏 about 👏this 👏episode! First of all, Grace is back! Be still my beating heart, the next episode is going to be DRAMATIC. I mean, I figured we'd see her again, but I'm really not sure how this is going to go. Plus, she's in London with her husband, who probably is not going to enjoy meeting Tommy. This is a perfect recipe for disaster if you ask me. In other news, Michael is working for Shelby Ltd now. I guess that means he's sticking around! I still don't know how I feel about his character; he's kind of tough to read. But, hey, if it makes Polly happy, it's good enough for me. Speaking of Michael, he got a real taste of what the PBs do in this episode when they burned down the bar. Although, as I've said before, Michael doesn't seem repealed by the violence so much as attracted to it. For the record, I also want to give the Blinders credit for being the most inclusive organized crime organization a

Review: Supernatural Season 2, Episode 4: Children Shouldn’t Play with Dead Things

When are people in fantasy/horror/sci-fi shows/movies/books going to realize that you cannot bring dead people back? Like, SERIOUSLY! It is a plot line is so many storylines and fandoms, and it’s always a disaster. Just don’t do it, kay? (Unless you have the magic resurrection ring from The Vampire Diaries , then I guess it’s okay.) But this dead chick, bringing her back was a TERRIBLE idea! The guy who brought her back created a super-strong, vengeful zombie who is immune to bullets just so he could escape the friendzone. Like, how messed up is that? I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; I get that this guy is horny, but he needs to be a little smarter than that. Are there no living girls he could get with? Plus, the zombie girl is super creepy. Like, she actually looks dead! I don’t know how you can stand to touch something like that, let alone kiss her. *Shudder* But, the main thing that stuck with me in this episode was Dean finally opening up and talking about how he feels. Yup, yup, this was a good 'un. I enjoyed this episode a LOT. It may not have been the most dramatic or action packed episode of the show (although, they're all dramatic, aren't they?), but I felt like watching this episode was like eating a piece of chocolate cake. Every bite was delicious and throughly satisfying, and I savored every moment of it. Anyway, let me step away from the weird metaphors. This episode was jam packed with interesting events. First of all, I am so incredibly interested in what's going to happen with Polly and her son. I feel like it would be too easy for them to become a happy, happy family, but maybe that's what will happen? At the very least, I'm glad she's had a chance to see her son and know that he's okay. Speaking of which, I'm not sure how I feel about Michael yet. In some ways, he seems like an innocent kid, but there's also a Tommy-esque coldness about him, which we see when he confronts violence on the

Review: Supernatural Season 2, Episode 3: Bloodlust

So, the real take away from this episode is that only Dean can call Sam “Sammy.” Just kidding, I had already figured that one out. Seriously though, this was a TRIPPY episode. We met Gordon, who is INSANE (more about that later). We encountered another hunter. And, most importantly, we learned that not all monsters are bad! Who would have thunk it? In case you need a recap, Sam and Dean are investigating some mysterious deaths when they realize that the people who are dying are actually vampires. They very quickly learn that another hunter, Gordon, is in town and is busy killing vamps. Dean and Gordon hit it off, but Sam becomes suspicious of Gordon after talking to Ellen. Sam then learns that the vampires they’ve been killing are actually “vegetarians,” AKA, they don’t attack humans. (For the record, I want to note that this came out BEFORE Twilight, and I found it much more compelling than Edward Cullen and his merry band of bloodsuckers.) Anyway, Sam tries to convince Dean not to hu

Review: Supernatural Season 2, Episode 2: Everybody Loves a Clown

I disagree with the title of this episode. I have never met anyone who actually likes clowns. In fact, most people I know think that they’re really creepy. Personally, I’m in that camp, and this episode did not change my mind. Anyway, this episode focuses on a killer clown monster that tricks children into letting it into their homes so it can feed on their parents. As if you needed any more fuel for nightmares, right? The boys get a tip off about the monster from one of John’s old friends, Ellen. Ellen and her daughter run a bar for hunters, which is pretty dope if you ask me. On a side note, I’m hoping that Ellen’s bar, the Roadhouse, is going to be a regular feature in the show going forward it. I’m picturing it as the Supernatural equivalent of the coffee shop in Friends , only with beer and knives, and probably less talk about bad dates. On the subject of the roadhouse, I gotta give a quick shout out to Ash. I might be bold to say this, but I think he’s going to become my new fav

Peaky Blinders: Season 2 Episode 2 Review

Now THAT was an episode. As you may have seen, I wasn't a huge fan of the first episode of this season, but this one really turned it around for me. As I mentioned last week, I almost felt like the first episode of this season came out of a different show, but this one was back to being Peaky Blinders for me. I say this because this episode was really focused on the psychological aspects of the characters, which is what makes the show interesting to me. Tommy's psychology in particular is so interesting. It's hard to get a handle on him as a character because, on one hand, he can be really loving and kind, but he also has a dark side, and it's not always clear which Tommy you're going to get in a particular situation. Like, when he started yelling at Arthur, I was genuinely shocked. Given what Tommy went through with his PTSD in season one, you'd think he'd be a little more sympathetic to Arthur's situation. You'd also think he'd know t

Review: Supernatural Season 2, Episode 1: In My Time of Dying

DEAN ALMOST DIED! I am FREAKING out!!! For the whole episode, I was like yelling at my TV, “don’t you quit on me, Dean! You have to live! There are 13 more seasons!!!” Fortunately, Dean survives. All I can say is that the show better not torment me like that again; I can NOT deal with the emotional stress. Maybe I’m insensitive, but I wasn’t really upset the John traded his life for Dean. I don’t really like John, and I feel like he wasn’t a great dead to Dean, so I felt like this trade was fitting. I mean, I feel a bit bad about it because Sam and Dean are so obviously broken up about it, but, other than that, John’s death didn’t have a big emotional impact on me. The only moment I shed a tear was when John was telling Dean how he failed him as a father. And, of course, that just reminded me that John failed Dean as a father, and I was back to disliking him again. Although, I did feel bad that Sam decided to fight with John the last time they ever saw each other. That was clearly a ro
