Well! I think we had quite enough psychoanalysis, Freud type stuff for one episode in this finale. In all seriousness though, I thought the writers of this episode did a really good job exploring what was happening with Sam’s psyche in this episode, which was certainly the most interesting part for me. Of course, it’s vital that Sam is able to reunite the two halves of his brain, and I’m glad he had the strength to do that. His journey with the ghost girl was a bit trippy, but I’ll forgive it because Sam confronting himself was a very powerful part of the episode. Sam plot aside, however, I was really disappointed in how Castiel chose to behave in this episode. First of all, killing Balthazar was WAY out of line. I wasn’t so bothered that he killed Raphael, but I am pre-tty concerned that Cas is now calling himself a god. Sounds like he’s getting a bit too big for his britches! Wow, this episode really broke my heart. I’ve been critical of the writer’s during this season, but I have to hand it to them, I really felt this episode on a deep and authentic level. In case you need a reminder, in this episode Lisa and Ben are kidnapped by demons controlled by Crowley. Crowley tells the boys that he won’t release them until Sam and Dean back down and stop looking for Purgatory. Frankly, I’m amazed that Crowley thought this would work. I imagine he knows the boys well enough by now to understand that they don’t quit that easy. But, maybe he just wanted to play with them. Anyway, Sam and Dean arrive and discover that a demon has taken up residence inside Lisa. They manage to exorcise her, but not before she seriously injures Lisa’s body. They manage to rush her to the hospital, and she survives, but Dean decides that he must ask Castiel to remove her memories of him, as knowing him has brought her so much sorrow. Now that was an interesting episode. Interesting, but also kind of sad. In case you need a recap, in this episode Castiel explains to the viewers (under the pretext of talking to God) that he’s working with Crowley in order to open purgatory. This was hinted at in the previous episode, but now we have confirmation. Castiel reveals that he was forced into a heavenly battle with Raphael after the non-Apocalypse; when he found himself losing the battle, Castiel discovered that he needed more souls and went to Crowley for help. Crowley and Castiel planned to open the gates of purgatory in order to use the monster souls that are stored there. Thus, Castiel finds himself in a situation where he must constantly betray the Winchesters in order to defeat Raphael. I can summarize this entire plot line in one phrase: the road to Hell is paved with good intentions. I think it’s the first time we’ve ever seen an entire episode from Castiel’s perspective, and you have to admit that it puts a differe...

So, is that it for the Mother of Monsters? If she’s actually dead, I have to say that it’s a rather disappointing end for her character. I mean, she was on the show for what, seven episodes? I don’t want to be judgemental, but that’s a pretty pathetic showing from someone who is supposed to be a major villain. Like, if the Winchesters got rid of all their enemies that way, it wouldn’t be a very interesting show, now would it? I actually think killing the Mother of Monsters so easily is a pretty major failing in the plot of this season (no wonder this season isn’t very well liked among fans!). With Eve dispatched so easily, the overarching plot of the season is a bit murky. Like, what has been the point of all of this? Okay, so this was a FUN episode. Seriously though, I was all about Dean in those super tacky cowboy clothes. It was a fashion disaster, but in a fun way. So, in case you need a recap, in this episode Sam and Dean discover a way to defeat the mother of all while reading a journal from the Campbell family library. They learn that the ashes of a phoenix can burn the Mother. Of course, the next problem is that they don’t know where to find a phoenix. Fortunately, they find a mention of a phoenix in the journal of Samuel Colt, and Cas is able to send them back in time to retrieve the creature. They arrive in a stereotypical, old-West town, where they learn that the phoenix is a person and he is a fugitive from the law (although, it seems like he was kind of framed for his crime). Various twists and turns take place, ending with Dean killing the phoenix in a Western style shoot-out. Unfortunately, Dean isn’t able to get the ashes before Cas brings them back to the future. So, this episode was kind of a weird one. In case you need a recap, in this episode Sam and Dean investigate a string of suspicious deaths. They learn that all the dead people are descendants of men and women who survived the sinking of the Titanic when they shouldn’t have. They survived because the Titanic didn’t sink. Of course, Sam and Dean don’t immediately recognize that this has happened because they don’t know that the Titanic should have sunk (this is why time travel episodes always give me headaches). The non-sinking of the Titanic also means that Ellen and Jo are still alive, which is utterly HEARTBREAKING. With Castiel’s help, Sam and Dean learn that the Titanic descendants are being killed by Fate and that the angel Balthazar un-sank the Titanic because he didn’t like the movie and he wasn’t a fan of the song “My Heart Will Go On.” (To be fair, the whole thing is kind of melodramatic.) Well, this was a DARK episode. First of all, let’s all take a moment to have a moment of silence for Rufus and Gwen. They were good hunters. Especially Rufus. I liked Rufus; he added some color and pizazz to the show. I don’t really have strong feelings about Gwen, but she seemed like a nice girl, and she certainly didn’t deserve to die the way she did. I am glad that Bobby survived though; it was touch and go for him for a minute. We will not have a moment of silence for Samuel because he was a TERRIBLE person. Honestly, his death was kind of disappointing to me. I wanted it to be more dramatic and more meaningful to the plot. The demise of Samuel was a bit random and anti-climatic in my opinion (although it was super gross, and I did not need to watch the Winchesters cutting into his skull). Oh my goodness, this EPISODE!!!!! I know that I’ve called other episodes the best episode ever before, but this time I really think it’s true. This episode was SO FUNNY! I DIED laughing the whole time. It was so META. In case you need a reminder, in this episode the angel Balthazar sends Sam and Dean to an alternate world to protect them from the angel Virgil. They end up in the world of the viewers, in which Supernatural is a TV show. Sam and Dean find that they’re now the actors in the show, Jared and Jensen. Meta right? You can imagine all the hilarity that ensues. When Sam and Dean return to their normal world, they learn that Castiel now has all the angelic weapons that Balthazar stole. There were some important plot points here, but, overall, I think this was just intended to be a fun episode. I mean, the actors certainly had fun filming it. Well, this was fuel for nightmares. SERIOUSLY. This one was DARK. The mannequins alone are disturbing beyond measure. I think I would drop dead on the spot if I saw a mannequin move! Not to mention the creepy ghost girl! I actually think this is one of the scariest episodes that Supernatural has put out in a while, but, above and beyond the scary aspects, it was just really sad. No one really deserved what happened in this episode. The sister didn’t deserve to die, Rose didn’t deserve her accident, and the guys who played the trick on her didn’t deserve to die either. Don’t get me wrong, their behavior was cruel and heartless, but they never intended to harm her. In any case, I thought the “monster” plot of this episode was well thought out and well written. It was a very tight story. HOWEVER. In my opinion, the best part of the episode was Dean’s interactions with Lisa and Ben. That whole relationship is just heartbreaking . Well, I found this episode to be STRESSFUL. And disturbing. Let’s not forget disturbing. I am NOT a fan of those spider people; I can tell you that for sure. I mean, those crazy eyes were stomach churning. The flashbacks were also kind of ominous. Maybe it’s just me, but I found them stressful. I guess there’s a GOOD reason that the Winchesters never return to the scenes of previous hunts. However, the overarching message of this episode was that soulless Sam was AWFUL. I mean, I guess we knew that, but he was really and truly cruel. The fact that soulless Sam used that guy as bait was just horrific. Also, Samuel was a bit suspect for letting him be awful indiscriminately (like I said, I don’t like him either). In case you need a reminder, in this episode, Sam and Dean travel to a town that Sam visited while he was soulless. GUYS. I’m so pleased that we have empathetic Sam back! Every time he said something that showed concern for another person, I was like “well, this is DELIGHTFUL.” It feels good to be back to normal, and dealing with empathetic Sam is just more pleasant. (Although, concealing what happened to him over the past year is probably not a good idea. I’m pretty sure that is going to come back to bite Dean.) Plus, I have to say that I enjoyed this episode overall. I mean, come on, how could you dislike DRAGONS? They’re classy monsters. I thought it was rather fascinating that the dragons had human bodies; that’s much more elegant than scales and wings. Although, I have to say that kidnapping virgins is a little bit shady. But, the real question is, if they only needed to push one girl into the lava, why did they kidnap twelve? Seems like overkill. I am very intrigued about this girl who came out of the fire though. This episode was emotionally EXHAUSTING. Seriously, I don’t know how I’m going to get through the rest of this season. It’s a LOT, and it lacks the joie de vivre of previous seasons. In case you need a quick recap, in this episode Dean goes to meet Death to convince him to help get Sam’s soul back. Death agrees to return Sam’s soul, but only if Dean puts on Death’s ring and carries out his duties for a day. Dean doesn’t succeed in this, but Death decides to restore Sam’s soul anyway, putting up a wall to defend Sam from the damaged part of the soul in the process. Sam seems to suffer when his soul is returned, however I am glad that he got it back because soulless Sam was starting to scare me (I mean, he tried to kill Bobby! I couldn’t believe that!). Plus, I assume he’ll be okay in the end because there are about nine seasons left, and I don’t think he’s going to be an incoherent husk of a man for all of them. I also enjoyed seeing Tessa again. This was another episode that felt like it took a MILLION years. Honestly, I was getting pretty tired of it by the end, mostly because it was just so tedious! Which is a shame because the actual content of the episode was pretty significant. Most importantly, Crowley is now dead! DEAD. Which, I’ll admit, is pretty shocking. I almost don’t believe they really killed Crowley. I bet he finds a way to come back and make more snarky comments! If Crowley is actually permanently dead, I am a little disappointed about the quality of that death scene. It just wasn’t actually that good. Kind of anticlimactic if you ask me. In other news, we learned that Sam regaining his soul might drive him crazy, which is a CONCERN to say the least. However, there are approximately nine seasons left, so I’m assuming that Sam successfully reincorporates his soul at some point. Oh my goodness, this episode! Now, THIS is the quality content I signed up for. This episode was so hilarious I couldn’t stand it. Seriously, I was laughing the whole time! My favorite moment had to be when Dean was yelling at Sam to “fight the fairies” out of the back of the cop car. The absurdity of that moment was the pièce de résistance of comedy. Although, I have to say that I think Sam had the best line of the episode: “If you want to add glitter to that glue you’re sniffing, that’s fine, but don’t dump your whackadoo all over us. We’d rather not step in it.” On a side note, I’m starting to like soulless Sam. Well, “like” might be a strong word. I should say that I am generally amused by his indifference to all social norms in this episode. Oh my goodness, this episode! It was so sad! Like, excuse me while I wipe away a single tear. When “Lucky” told Mandy who he really was and she rejected him, it broke my heart! I mean, honestly, I’m not too surprised that she rejected him (TBH, I would probably do the same thing in her circumstances; it was a pretty creepy situation), but it was sad nonetheless. I half expected her to run after him, in true, romantic comedy style. In case you need a recap, in this episode Crowley tells the Winchesters that they will need to capture an Alpha in order to regain Sam’s soul. Consequently, the boys set out to investigate what appears to be a werewolf infestation, in the hopes of locating an Alpha. WELL. As It turns out, the “werewolves” were actually skinwalkers. Sam and Dean manage to catch one of the skinwalkers, a German Shepherd/human named Lucky. It turns out that Lucky actually cares about the family he lives with, so Sam and Dean try to convince him to turn on the other shapeshifters...

Well, this episode was a doozy! In fact, if you look in the dictionary, I’m pretty sure this is the definition of doozy. Let us recap all of the important things we learned in this episode: Sam does not have a soul. Like, no wonder he’s been so problematic lately! Samuel does have a soul, but he made a deal with Crowley, so maybe he won’t have it for long.  Cas has more important things to do than deal with Dean’s problems, as difficult as that might be to believe. The Campbells are snatching monsters on Crowley’s behalf. Guys, I can already tell you that this is going to end badly. This is super shady and also super stupid. Lisa is not talking to Dean. Sigh. Crowley is trying to get information on Purgatory for some sort of infernal real estate deal. Sounds pretty sus to me. Like I said, doozy. Honestly, this episode was a lot to absorb for me. You know what, I’m glad that Dean beat Sam’s face into a pulp in this episode. As this season goes on, I’m just hating Sam more and more. Like, what is this “I can’t have feelings anymore” crap? I’m sorry, but that is NOT an excuse. Cry me a river Sam, but whether or not you have feelings, you should know what’s right and what’s wrong. Like, it’s just so infuriating! Anyway, I thought that the premise of this episode was pretty interesting. The scene where everyone kept telling the waitress what they thought of her reminded me of True Blood ; although Sookie’s mind-reading thing was quite different. I have to say, however, that hearing 100% of the truth 100% of the time sounds pretty terrible. I can understand why all those people killed themselves; it was probably devastating. You know what else was devastating? That goddess. I mean, talk about creepy! I do appreciate that she likes cats, but the bodies in her basement were pretty disturbing. Okay, Sam made me so angry in this episode that I can’t even find the words to express my rage. SAM! SAM! SAM! WHAT ARE YOU DOING????? Did you guys see how Sam just allowed Dean to become a vampire in this episode?? Did you see that? I don’t care that he probably knew that there was a cure; that doesn’t change the fact that his actions could have gotten Dean killed. Or, Dean could have killed someone else! Lisa and Ben were at risk, and, by the way, Sam’s little vampire stunt probably severely damaged Dean’s relationship with his surrogate family. Like, HOW COULD HE DO THAT???? Man, Sam either has no empathy or he’s so thoughtless it’s ridiculous (or both). It just KILLS me. By the way, how did Sam even know that the cure would work? I think the theme of this episode is POOR BOBBY! Supernatural focuses on Sam and Dean, so sometimes it’s easy to forget that other characters have problems too. To be honest, I’d kind of forgotten that Bobby had sold his soul to Crowley; I’d just kind of assumed that he got his soul back when he was resurrected at the end of season five. But, I should have known better because Crowley—for all his witty banter—is, after all, a demon. In case you need a recap, this episode is mostly about Bobby. He spends most of the episode trying to find a way to get his soul back from Crowley, but keeps getting interrupted by other hunters asking for help (in both horrifying and hilarious ways). I can’t decide what was better, Bobby breaking into the library through the window or the vampire-ish monster going through the woodchipper. Anyway, the episode ends with Bobby yelling at Sam and Dean for not helping him when he needs it. The brothers then go to Scotland, dig up Crowley’s bones, and threaten ...

Yay!!! Cas is back! I missed him and his trench coat. Despite the fact that he has no people skills and is constantly popping around in a dizzying fashion, Cas is a pretty lovable angel. Plus, I appreciate the “special bond” he has with Dean; someone has to be on Dean’s side now that Sam has decided to be annoyingly smug. Anyway, Cas shows up in this episode because SOMEONE is stealing stuff from Heaven. Maybe they should install a security system or something. Sam and Dean call upon Cas while they are investigating a series of strange (and intensely gross) deaths; when Cas turns up, he tells them that the deaths are being caused by the Staff of Moses, which went missing after the boys stopped Armageddon. Together, they learn that the deaths are being caused by a little boy who is angry about his brother’s death; the boy traded his soul to an angel named Balthazar for the staff. It turns out that Cas knows Balthazar, so they go after him. Other angels show up and try to jump Balthazar,...
