Review: Supernatural Season 4, Episode 4: Metamorphosis

I DID NOT like this episode. I’m going to say that again because I want to be emphatic. I DID NOT like this episode. It was so, so profoundly icky . No, icky is the wrong word. It was GROSS. It was DISGUSTING. And, more than that, it was DISTURBING . I mean, I’ve seen episodes of Supernatural that were repulsive and horrifying before, but this one really took the cake. I don’t know about you, but I draw the line at cannibalism. *SHUDDER* Man, was this episode ever hard to watch. I had to look away more than half the time because I was so revolted. And it wasn’t just the cannibalism. It was all the other eating too! When he was shoveling down the raw hamburger I was ready to gag. In fact, I’m not even going to summarize the plot for you because it was so icky! If you want to know what happened, watch it. Or don’t. My roommate, who watches all the episodes with me, got up and started playing with the cats halfway through this episode because she couldn’t bear to watch anymore! I mean, I...

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 16: No Rest for the Wicked

Well, THAT was a season finale. It seems that Dean is in hell now. So, that’s horrifying. I really did not need to see him with all those hooks in his body. I mean, there’s like twelve more seasons, so I assume he’s not going to stay in hell, but, still, HORRIFYING. To give the biggest understatement of all time: POOR DEAN! Seriously, though. All the terrible things happen to him. Why is he the most psychologically tormented person ever? I guess Sam gets his fair share of disaster and torture, but it seems like there’s a special level of misery reserved for Dean. Speaking of misery, I feel terrible for that family that Lilith trapped and forced to serve her. It’s almost worse to have the monster right in front of you in broad daylight, as opposed to hiding in the darkness. The way Lilith was torturing that family in the little girl’s body was straight out of a nightmare. I mean, all in all, this is a pretty dark episode (understandably). I kind of expected them to save Dean, but I’m al...

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 15: Time Is on My Side

Remember how I said that the last episode was creepy? Well, scratch that. This episode was 15 times more creepy. That doctor’s face? That is what NIGHTMARES are made of. *Shudder* I’m so incredibly glad they locked that freak in a refrigerator. Although, I think I would have felt better if they had burned him first. I mean, he was going to take Sam’s eyes. His EYES. I can not express to you how much that panics me. I mean, it really freaks me out. Thank goodness for Dean and chloroform. Like, how could Sam think that Dean would want to stay alive by stealing parts of other people? Does he not know Dean at all???? The guy whose self loathing and guilt is off the charts is going to participate in organ theft? I don’t think so. Also, Sam has to know that that would not make good TV. Who is going to tune in every week to watch Sam and Dean hunt down new kidneys. It just doesn’t have the same appeal. There were two basic plot lines going on in this episode. Dean tries to find Bela...

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 14: Long-Distance Call

Well, that was creepy. I mean, I feel like I say that all the time about Supernatural episodes, but people getting phone calls telling them to kill themselves is near the top of the list. That little boy walking out into traffic was particularly chilling. In case you need a recap, in this episode Sam and Dean investigate a series of mysterious phone calls that seem to come from dead people, including John Winchester. The “people” making the phone calls try to convince their loved ones to commit suicide so they can join them on the other side. Horrifying, no? Sam and Dean discover that a monster is actually making the phone calls, feeding off the souls of those who kill themselves. Fortunately, Sam and Dean are able to kill him. Overall, I thought this episode was pretty good! Sure, it inflicted psychological trauma on all our favorite characters, but, hey, that’s what Supernatural is all about. It was particularly painful to see Dean realize that his dad wasn’t going to help him. The...

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 13: Ghostfacers

Oh my goodness, THIS EPISODE. GAH! Give it an A+ or a gold start or whatever, THIS is the quality content I signed up for. Like, can we get a whole season of just Ghostfacers? Is that possible? Can I create a Kickstarter fund to make that happen? The second I saw that the two guys from the Hell House episode were back, I was like “oh boy, we’re in for something good.” And, I was not disappointed. I cannot emphasize enough how much I loved this episode. It was SO FUNNY! I mean, I died laughing the whole time. Like, the whole serial killer, bodies in the bunker, evil birthday party thing was INTENSELY creepy, but the episode was just so hilarious that I couldn’t really find it scary. Like, the editing alone made this episode priceless. It was so over the top in a wonderfully dramatic way; it’s like reality TV with an extra dash of exaggeration. Although, I have to say that I’ve seen those types of ghost hunters, looking for bigfoot kinds of shows on TV, and that is what the editing is ac...

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 12: Jus in Bello

Okay, so now there’s a little girl demon on the loose. What is it with evil little girls and this show????? Will someone PLEASE explain it to me? Now we have another evil child running around: Lilith! Can we be done with all these monster kids? They’re so creepy! Anyway, before I get distracted, let’s talk about the actual episode. In this episode, Sam and Dean get arrested and taken to jail by Agent Henriksen. (Like I’ve said before, I’m always amused when Sam and Dean tangle with the law because the truth of what they’re doing is so fundamentally different from what they’re accused of. And, I’ve been loving to hate Henriksen forever because he’s so VEHEMENTLY against our Winchesters.) However, when they’re brought into the police station, Sam and Dean discover that the demons have found them. The police station is soon surrounded by demons, and the Winchesters have to exorcise and federal agent to convince Henriksen and the other officers that what they’re saying is true. As you can...

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 11: Mystery Spot

I low-key, high-key HATED this episode. Like, those are strong words for an episode of Supernatural , but I really did not like it. First of all, I should start this off by saying that I hate Groundhog’s Day , so the concept of this episode didn’t impress me much (in case you don’t remember, in this episode the Trickster puts Sam and Dean in a time loop in which they repeat Tuesday over and over again, with Dean dying each time). I don’t like the whole “day repeats forever thing” because a) it gets a little boring and b) it’s actually really stressful. Like, I don’t think I’ve ever gotten to the end of Groundhog’s Day because at a certain point it just makes me so upset I can’t watch it anymore. Every time the day repeats, I just get this mounting sense of anxiety, and it’s truly terrible. SO. As you can imagine, I didn’t like that Tuesday kept replaying itself in this episode. I felt second hand anxiety for Sam. First of all, repeating that day again and again is torture, and Dean d...

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 10: Dream a Little Dream of Me

Oh my goodness, FINALLY. We FINALLY got Dean to admit that he doesn’t want to die and he doesn’t deserve to go to Hell. THANK GOODNESS. Now, we just have to figure out how we’re going to save him from the literal devil in the next six hours of television. But, I’m sure the boys will manage it because there’s like 12 more seasons of this show, and I’m guessing they don’t happen with demon Dean as one of the main characters. Anyway. This episode was a LOT. From a psychological perspective anyway. Watching Dean argue with himself about how worthless he is as a human being was INTENSE. Not to mention that Dean killed his dream self; I’m guessing that’s some major psychological symbolism some way or another. Like I said, I’m glad that Dean has admitted that he wants to live, but the mental trauma he had to endure in this episode was just BRUTAL. Poor Dean! In case you need a recap, in this episode Sam and Dean learn that Bobby is essentially in a coma. They arrive to investigate and discove...

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 9: Malleus Maleficarum

I hate to say it, but I feel like this witch episode was kind of a snoozer. Like, I just have a hard time caring about witches who are trying to reduce their mortgage payments. If I wanted to see the banalities of suburban neighborhoods on display, I have my life. Also, I gotta say that these witches were particularly icky. Like that scene with the teeth falling out gave me SHIVERS, and don’t even get me started on the maggots in the burger. In case you need a recap, in this episode Sam and Dean encounter a coven of witches that is responsible for killing two people. They begin to investigate and find that a group of suburban housewives are practicing magic while pretending to be in a book club. Which, frankly, sounds much more exciting than actually being in a book club. However, before they go after the witches, Ruby turns up to warn them that the coven is actually being controlled by a powerful demon, who they shouldn’t mess with. However, the coven attacks Dean, which, of course, p...

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 8: A Very Supernatural Christmas

I didn’t know whether to laugh, cry, or scream while watching this episode. Like, it was so disturbing, but also really touching and totally hilarious. I was in literal tears when they showed that Christmas flashback with Sam giving Dean his amulet. Then, you realize that Dean has been wearing that necklace for like twenty years, and then you think about how much Dean cares about his brother and his family, and then you just start blubbering. Not to mention that the whole Christmas flashback was super moving as well. Every time I start to like John Winchester, I’m reminded of what a bad parent he was. Like, it’s so sad that DEAN had to be the one to provide a Christmas for his brother when he was like nine-years-old himself. I mean, it was kind of funny that he stole a Barbie to give to Sam for Christmas, but it was also heartbreaking. Like, here you have this kid trying to be a parent to his brother and give him a childhood when he never really had a childhood himself. I know he...

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 7: Fresh Blood

Sometimes I watch an episode of Supernatural , and I’m like “I cannot believe they allowed this on cable!” That’s how I felt about the ending of this episode. Sam’s decapitation of Gordon was horrifying . I mean, that was some Game of Thrones level violence. It was BRUTAL. On the other hand, ding dong, the witch is dead. I’m so GLAD that they finally killed Gordon. I could not STAND that guy. I’m glad he died as a vampire too; I feel like that was a good punishment for him. Like I said, I could have done without all the blood and guts and gore, but, otherwise, GOOD RIDDANCE. Sam and Dean have enough problems without Gordon running around trying to kill them. Also, good riddance to the creepy, Jesus-obsessed hunter. He needed to go too! Gordon’s rationale for killing him was completely unreasonable (duh, it’s Gordon), but I’m glad he’s dead. Sam and Dean have 99 problems, but that guy ain’t one. I also have to remark on how disappointed I was in Bela in this episode. I kind of thought...

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 6: Red Sky at Morning

Okay, I can’t tell if I love Bela or I hate her. I kind of ship her with Dean, but at the same time I kind of think he should sic the Trickster on her or something because it’s very possible that Bela will be the death of them (although probably not because we’re only on season 3). Seriously though, if Bela used her abilities for good, she and Dean would be an unstoppable power couple (although Sam and Gert might give them a run for their money). The way they stole the Hand of Glory was simply masterful . Plus, how dreamy was Dean in a tux? I would have fainted too! Speaking of fainting, I’m pretty sure I would collapse if I ever saw a * severed human hand * (!!!!) in a museum. Like, why did that museum have the hand on display???? I guess it’s an anthropological artifact or something, but still! That’s really creepy, no? Anyway, let me move on before I get too upset about this. I have seen the Bodies exhibition (which totally gave me nightmares), so I guess I can’t complain too much a...

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 5: Bedtime Stories

Dude, this episode was MESSED. UP. I feel like I say that about a lot of Supernatural episodes, but somehow they always manage to up the ante. Fairy tales coming to life out of a coma patient’s twisted imagination is certainly the pièce de résistance of a long series of disturbing episodes. In case you need a recap, this episode focuses on a series of mysterious crimes that seem to reenact fairy tales. You have three builders being killed by a wolf, a sweet old woman who lures “Hansel and Gretel” into her house to kill them, and a “Cinderella” chained to the stove by her stepmother. Maybe you’ve already figured this out, but all of those things are far more violent and vicious in real life than they are in the story books. Pre-tty disturbing! Anyway, Sam and Dean arrive to investigate and find that the attacks are being caused by the spirit a coma patient named Callie. It turns out that Callie’s step mother attempted to kill her when she was a little girl. Although she’s grown up now,...

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 4: Sin City

I can’t lie, this episode was kind of a snoozer for me. Like, to me, it just felt like filler, which is probably not a fair assessment. But, for whatever reason, I just didn’t like it. It happens. Basically, this episode was about a ton that’s being plagued by demons, which are making the town go crazy. (Hence the title “Sin City”). Sam and Dean arrive to investigate, running into another hunter named Richie in the process. Unfortunately, Richie is pretty useless as a hunter, and he ends up getting killed. Dean sets out to get revenge and learns that the bartender, a woman named Casey is a demon. He tries to exorcise her and ends up trapped in a basement with the demon. Meanwhile, Sam tries to come to his rescue and ends up in a fight with another demon. However, Bobby arrives and helps them kill the demons. There were some good plot moments though. Also, it seems like demon girl— Ruby—has fixed the Colt. I am intrigued. We could certainly use another demon killing device. I was also v...

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 3: Bad Day at Black Rock

I AM BATMAN! I love Dean Winchester so much I can’t even put it into words. Like, who has such fantastic one liners and is also that ridiculously good looking? Ugh, I can’t even. But seriously, I’m going to start using that line in my real life now, see if I don’t! But, before I get too distracted, let’s talk about the episode. I’m getting real annoyed that no one has killed Gordon yet. Like, I keep telling Sam and Dean that they need to end him, but it’s almost like they’re projections on my TV screen and can’t hear me *shrug*. Seriously though, they should have killed him when they had the chance. I think this is the third time he’s shown up to screw with them. I get that Sam and Dean don’t want to hurt a human, but, at some point, enough is enough, right? Like, how many times is Gordon going to get them almost killed? SMH. But, what was truly creepy was the weirdo Jesus dude. Like, normally I’m all for Jesus people, but this guy was like truly a psycho. I mean, you know you’re a der...

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 2: The Kids Are Alright

Okay, raise your hand if you were convinced that Ben was Dean’s kid. I mean, I know that the mom said he wasn’t, but I’m still half convinced. Like, they have the same pick up lines, the same sense of humor, and the same taste in music. They’re even wearing the same jacket! How is Ben not mini-Dean? But, I digress. Let us talk about this episode. Guys, I am 100% confident that this was the FREAKIEST thing I have ever seen on television. Seriously, I was not prepared for how much this episode scared me. I think it was because it was both hilarious and extremely terrifying. Like, one minute you’re eating race-car birthday cake, and the next minute there’s a kid with a sucker mouth and empty holes for eyes in your rearview mirror. Like, what am I supposed to do with THAT? I know I’ve said it before, but I’m going to say it again. Supernatural needs to quit with the creepy kids, especially the creepy little girls. I just don’t think my heart can take it anymore. Everytime the...

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 1: The Magnificent Seven

So, I guess Supernatural is going to be all demon hunting all the time going forward. Like, I’m okay with that, don’t get me wrong. Demons, you gotta hate ‘em, amirite? Overall, however, I just didn’t love this episode. Out of the three season premieres I’ve seen thus far, this one is definitely the weakest. I just felt like the episode was a little unfocused. Basically this episode just reveals the aftermath of opening the Hell Gate. Demons are rampaging across the world and causing all sorts of trouble, and Sam and Dean are on hand to save the day. In this episode, they encounter the seven deadly sins made incarnate. The seven are set on destroying the Winchesters, so, of course, they have to send them back to hell. Along the way, they encounter a married couple who happen to be hunters. They blame Sam and Dean for letting the demons loose, which seems a bit unfair to me. I mean, surely that was Jake’s fault. Sam and Dean just tried to stop him. It wasn’t really their fault that th...
