Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 14: Long-Distance Call
Well, that was creepy.
I mean, I feel like I say that all the time about Supernatural episodes, but people getting phone calls telling them to kill themselves is near the top of the list. That little boy walking out into traffic was particularly chilling.
In case you need a recap, in this episode Sam and Dean investigate a series of mysterious phone calls that seem to come from dead people, including John Winchester. The “people” making the phone calls try to convince their loved ones to commit suicide so they can join them on the other side. Horrifying, no? Sam and Dean discover that a monster is actually making the phone calls, feeding off the souls of those who kill themselves. Fortunately, Sam and Dean are able to kill him.
Overall, I thought this episode was pretty good! Sure, it inflicted psychological trauma on all our favorite characters, but, hey, that’s what Supernatural is all about. It was particularly painful to see Dean realize that his dad wasn’t going to help him. The only thing that was worse was watching that other dad try to kill Dean because he thought Dean killed his daughter. Man, was that ever heartbreaking.
I also gotta point out that the control room at that phone company was INSANELY dirty. I mean, I know that that was the point, but it made me want to RUN to the lysol.
Speaking of the phone company, I think that phone company guy had the best line of the episode: “That's what happens when you mess with the phone company!”
Has anyone ever said anything more lame? I don’t think so, but it was HILARIOUS.
Rating: 7/10
