Review: Supernatural Season 4, Episode 1: Lazarus Rising

Did anyone else notice that Dean seemed to be wearing Sam’s clothes in this episode? I assume that he didn’t have his normal stylish wardrobe when he ascended from hell, so he had to borrow stuff from Sam because his clothes were uncharacteristically ugly in this episode. I mean, let’s keep it real, Sam is the fashion challenged brother. I think we all remember that stupid dog t-shirt that I railed against in season one. Now, THAT gave me nightmares. The important thing that happened in this episode was that Dean came back to life, which I’m very pleased about, obviously. But the clothes really caught my attention. Anyway, we should probably talk about the actual plot now. I kind of expected season 4 to start with a few episodes about Bobby and Sam getting Dean out of hell, but I’m kind of glad they didn’t make us go through that. I’m happy to have Dean back right away. Basically, in this episode, Dean wakes up in his own grave and digs his way out. He has no memory of being in hell (

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 16: No Rest for the Wicked

Well, THAT was a season finale. It seems that Dean is in hell now. So, that’s horrifying. I really did not need to see him with all those hooks in his body. I mean, there’s like twelve more seasons, so I assume he’s not going to stay in hell, but, still, HORRIFYING. To give the biggest understatement of all time: POOR DEAN! Seriously, though. All the terrible things happen to him. Why is he the most psychologically tormented person ever? I guess Sam gets his fair share of disaster and torture, but it seems like there’s a special level of misery reserved for Dean. Speaking of misery, I feel terrible for that family that Lilith trapped and forced to serve her. It’s almost worse to have the monster right in front of you in broad daylight, as opposed to hiding in the darkness. The way Lilith was torturing that family in the little girl’s body was straight out of a nightmare. I mean, all in all, this is a pretty dark episode (understandably). I kind of expected them to save Dean, but I’m al

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 15: Time Is on My Side

Remember how I said that the last episode was creepy? Well, scratch that. This episode was 15 times more creepy. That doctor’s face? That is what NIGHTMARES are made of. *Shudder* I’m so incredibly glad they locked that freak in a refrigerator. Although, I think I would have felt better if they had burned him first. I mean, he was going to take Sam’s eyes. His EYES. I can not express to you how much that panics me. I mean, it really freaks me out. Thank goodness for Dean and chloroform. Like, how could Sam think that Dean would want to stay alive by stealing parts of other people? Does he not know Dean at all???? The guy whose self loathing and guilt is off the charts is going to participate in organ theft? I don’t think so. Also, Sam has to know that that would not make good TV. Who is going to tune in every week to watch Sam and Dean hunt down new kidneys. It just doesn’t have the same appeal. There were two basic plot lines going on in this episode. Dean tries to find Bela

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 14: Long-Distance Call

Well, that was creepy. I mean, I feel like I say that all the time about Supernatural episodes, but people getting phone calls telling them to kill themselves is near the top of the list. That little boy walking out into traffic was particularly chilling. In case you need a recap, in this episode Sam and Dean investigate a series of mysterious phone calls that seem to come from dead people, including John Winchester. The “people” making the phone calls try to convince their loved ones to commit suicide so they can join them on the other side. Horrifying, no? Sam and Dean discover that a monster is actually making the phone calls, feeding off the souls of those who kill themselves. Fortunately, Sam and Dean are able to kill him. Overall, I thought this episode was pretty good! Sure, it inflicted psychological trauma on all our favorite characters, but, hey, that’s what Supernatural is all about. It was particularly painful to see Dean realize that his dad wasn’t going to help him. The

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 13: Ghostfacers

Oh my goodness, THIS EPISODE. GAH! Give it an A+ or a gold start or whatever, THIS is the quality content I signed up for. Like, can we get a whole season of just Ghostfacers? Is that possible? Can I create a Kickstarter fund to make that happen? The second I saw that the two guys from the Hell House episode were back, I was like “oh boy, we’re in for something good.” And, I was not disappointed. I cannot emphasize enough how much I loved this episode. It was SO FUNNY! I mean, I died laughing the whole time. Like, the whole serial killer, bodies in the bunker, evil birthday party thing was INTENSELY creepy, but the episode was just so hilarious that I couldn’t really find it scary. Like, the editing alone made this episode priceless. It was so over the top in a wonderfully dramatic way; it’s like reality TV with an extra dash of exaggeration. Although, I have to say that I’ve seen those types of ghost hunters, looking for bigfoot kinds of shows on TV, and that is what the editing is ac

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 12: Jus in Bello

Okay, so now there’s a little girl demon on the loose. What is it with evil little girls and this show????? Will someone PLEASE explain it to me? Now we have another evil child running around: Lilith! Can we be done with all these monster kids? They’re so creepy! Anyway, before I get distracted, let’s talk about the actual episode. In this episode, Sam and Dean get arrested and taken to jail by Agent Henriksen. (Like I’ve said before, I’m always amused when Sam and Dean tangle with the law because the truth of what they’re doing is so fundamentally different from what they’re accused of. And, I’ve been loving to hate Henriksen forever because he’s so VEHEMENTLY against our Winchesters.) However, when they’re brought into the police station, Sam and Dean discover that the demons have found them. The police station is soon surrounded by demons, and the Winchesters have to exorcise and federal agent to convince Henriksen and the other officers that what they’re saying is true. As you can

Peaky Blinders: Season 5 Episode 5 Review

I think Tommy gets the award for quote of the episode. I love it when he was like "I had a more elaborate plan to deal with Mosley, but then he spoke badly to my wife." Come on, you can't tell me that wasn't awesome. Tommy is such a G I can't even stand it! That smooth way he announced that he was going to kill Mosley was just so SMOOTH. This is why Cillian Murphy deserves all the acting awards. I certainly hope that the assassination plan goes off without a hitch. No one deserves to be killed more than Mosley. Did you hear that disgusting speech he made at Tommy's party? Did you see the way everyone reacted? Honestly, someone needs to put a bullet in his head. That character enrages me. I mean, I assume someone will deal with him because the PBs always defeat their enemies before the end of the season, and Mosley is not nearly as wiley as he thinks he is. All the same, I do have to agree with Lizzie: Tommy needs to stop getting into these "way o

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 11: Mystery Spot

I low-key, high-key HATED this episode. Like, those are strong words for an episode of Supernatural , but I really did not like it. First of all, I should start this off by saying that I hate Groundhog’s Day , so the concept of this episode didn’t impress me much (in case you don’t remember, in this episode the Trickster puts Sam and Dean in a time loop in which they repeat Tuesday over and over again, with Dean dying each time). I don’t like the whole “day repeats forever thing” because a) it gets a little boring and b) it’s actually really stressful. Like, I don’t think I’ve ever gotten to the end of Groundhog’s Day because at a certain point it just makes me so upset I can’t watch it anymore. Every time the day repeats, I just get this mounting sense of anxiety, and it’s truly terrible. SO. As you can imagine, I didn’t like that Tuesday kept replaying itself in this episode. I felt second hand anxiety for Sam. First of all, repeating that day again and again is torture, and Dean d

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 10: Dream a Little Dream of Me

Oh my goodness, FINALLY. We FINALLY got Dean to admit that he doesn’t want to die and he doesn’t deserve to go to Hell. THANK GOODNESS. Now, we just have to figure out how we’re going to save him from the literal devil in the next six hours of television. But, I’m sure the boys will manage it because there’s like 12 more seasons of this show, and I’m guessing they don’t happen with demon Dean as one of the main characters. Anyway. This episode was a LOT. From a psychological perspective anyway. Watching Dean argue with himself about how worthless he is as a human being was INTENSE. Not to mention that Dean killed his dream self; I’m guessing that’s some major psychological symbolism some way or another. Like I said, I’m glad that Dean has admitted that he wants to live, but the mental trauma he had to endure in this episode was just BRUTAL. Poor Dean! In case you need a recap, in this episode Sam and Dean learn that Bobby is essentially in a coma. They arrive to investigate and discove

Peaky Blinders: Season 5 Episode 4 Review

Can someone just please kill Mosley already????? Like, I DESPISE that guy. My hatred for him burns with the heat of 1000 suns. When he came up to Lizzie and was like "ha, ha, I slept with you when you were a whore," I wanted to punch him in the face! Honestly, I don't know how Tommy resisted the urge! Like, at every turn, this Mosley guy just thinks of more and more disgusting and insensitive things to say. Not to mention that he's sleeping with his own family members. Again, why has no one killed him yet??? I am truly baffled. Anyway, we have to move past Mosley because he wasn't even the most dramatic part of this episode. Like, I need to know, IS LINDA DEAD???? I've never been super invested in her as a character, but I want her to live! Honestly, I feel bad for Linda because she's in a really tough situation. She can't leave Arthur and she obviously isn't happy with him. What is she supposed to do? Of course, I didn't wan

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 9: Malleus Maleficarum

I hate to say it, but I feel like this witch episode was kind of a snoozer. Like, I just have a hard time caring about witches who are trying to reduce their mortgage payments. If I wanted to see the banalities of suburban neighborhoods on display, I have my life. Also, I gotta say that these witches were particularly icky. Like that scene with the teeth falling out gave me SHIVERS, and don’t even get me started on the maggots in the burger. In case you need a recap, in this episode Sam and Dean encounter a coven of witches that is responsible for killing two people. They begin to investigate and find that a group of suburban housewives are practicing magic while pretending to be in a book club. Which, frankly, sounds much more exciting than actually being in a book club. However, before they go after the witches, Ruby turns up to warn them that the coven is actually being controlled by a powerful demon, who they shouldn’t mess with. However, the coven attacks Dean, which, of course, p

Peaky Blinders: Season 5 Episode 3 Review

So, I'm just going to come out and say it. Everyone on this show is psychotic! Tommy, Arthur, the Billy Boys, everyone! As I watching this episode, I was just like "I can't believe they're doing these things. Why are they doing these things????" Oh, the DRAMA! First of all, Arthur is on the verge of having a full-blown meltdown, a la season 2. The way he killed that guy who was just talking to Linda was absolutely brutal! And to be quite frank, I totally understand why Linda wants to get away from him. I don't think we've ever seen Arthur be violent towards Linda, but being married to him certainly qualifies as an abusive relationship. On the same hand, we all know that Arthur genuinely has a heart of gold. He just happens to be severely messed up in the head. So, I don't really know who we're supposed to sympathize with as an audience. Speaking of abusive relationships, I don't like Tommy telling Lizzie that he owns her. Obviously, tha

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 8: A Very Supernatural Christmas

I didn’t know whether to laugh, cry, or scream while watching this episode. Like, it was so disturbing, but also really touching and totally hilarious. I was in literal tears when they showed that Christmas flashback with Sam giving Dean his amulet. Then, you realize that Dean has been wearing that necklace for like twenty years, and then you think about how much Dean cares about his brother and his family, and then you just start blubbering. Not to mention that the whole Christmas flashback was super moving as well. Every time I start to like John Winchester, I’m reminded of what a bad parent he was. Like, it’s so sad that DEAN had to be the one to provide a Christmas for his brother when he was like nine-years-old himself. I mean, it was kind of funny that he stole a Barbie to give to Sam for Christmas, but it was also heartbreaking. Like, here you have this kid trying to be a parent to his brother and give him a childhood when he never really had a childhood himself. I know he

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 7: Fresh Blood

Sometimes I watch an episode of Supernatural , and I’m like “I cannot believe they allowed this on cable!” That’s how I felt about the ending of this episode. Sam’s decapitation of Gordon was horrifying . I mean, that was some Game of Thrones level violence. It was BRUTAL. On the other hand, ding dong, the witch is dead. I’m so GLAD that they finally killed Gordon. I could not STAND that guy. I’m glad he died as a vampire too; I feel like that was a good punishment for him. Like I said, I could have done without all the blood and guts and gore, but, otherwise, GOOD RIDDANCE. Sam and Dean have enough problems without Gordon running around trying to kill them. Also, good riddance to the creepy, Jesus-obsessed hunter. He needed to go too! Gordon’s rationale for killing him was completely unreasonable (duh, it’s Gordon), but I’m glad he’s dead. Sam and Dean have 99 problems, but that guy ain’t one. I also have to remark on how disappointed I was in Bela in this episode. I kind of thought

Peaky Blinders: Season 5 Episode 2 Review

Ay yai yai, the DRAMA. Where do I even begin with all this DRAMA ? First of all, can I say that I don't think criminal gangs should sing? Like, the fact that the Billy Boys crucified  Bonnie Gold was bad enough, but did they have to introduce themselves by singing? I mean, there's psycho, and then there's psycho . And these guys make the Mafia last season look like boy scouts. Don't get me wrong, I have no doubt that Tommy will be able to deal with them, but I shudder to think of what's going to happen along the way. That explosive device at the beginning of the episode gave me some serious anxiety for starters. Also, I gotta say that I really felt for Lizzie in this episode. I mean, I think her personality is a good match for him, and she clearly loves him, but being Tommy's wife must be simply hellish .  Who can blame her if she finds the drugs, drinking, violence, paranoia, and emotional inaccessibility too much to bear? Plus, Tommy was actually kind

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 6: Red Sky at Morning

Okay, I can’t tell if I love Bela or I hate her. I kind of ship her with Dean, but at the same time I kind of think he should sic the Trickster on her or something because it’s very possible that Bela will be the death of them (although probably not because we’re only on season 3). Seriously though, if Bela used her abilities for good, she and Dean would be an unstoppable power couple (although Sam and Gert might give them a run for their money). The way they stole the Hand of Glory was simply masterful . Plus, how dreamy was Dean in a tux? I would have fainted too! Speaking of fainting, I’m pretty sure I would collapse if I ever saw a * severed human hand * (!!!!) in a museum. Like, why did that museum have the hand on display???? I guess it’s an anthropological artifact or something, but still! That’s really creepy, no? Anyway, let me move on before I get too upset about this. I have seen the Bodies exhibition (which totally gave me nightmares), so I guess I can’t complain too much a

Peaky Blinders: Season 5 Episode 1 Review

Image
If there's one thing we learned in this episode, it's that no one listens to Tommy. I can't say I know why that's the case. He's clearly the man with all the answers and a plan for everything. Plus, he's far and away the most attractive person on the show. Although, Arthur is giving him a run for his money with his new haircut. That is a lewk . I am a tad bit concerned about Tommy's suicidal tendencies and the fact the fact that he's hallucinating about his dead wife, but it wouldn't be Peaky Blinders if someone wasn't on the brink of a complete psychological breakdown, and it might as well be Tommy. Although, I have to say that he's almost disturbingly calm about losing all his money. He might be crazy, but he's got nerves of steel. Speaking of people with psychological problems, I'm concerned about Finn. He's obviously trying to live up to his older brothers, but a) he's not cut out for that lifestyle and b) the She

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 5: Bedtime Stories

Dude, this episode was MESSED. UP. I feel like I say that about a lot of Supernatural episodes, but somehow they always manage to up the ante. Fairy tales coming to life out of a coma patient’s twisted imagination is certainly the pièce de résistance of a long series of disturbing episodes. In case you need a recap, this episode focuses on a series of mysterious crimes that seem to reenact fairy tales. You have three builders being killed by a wolf, a sweet old woman who lures “Hansel and Gretel” into her house to kill them, and a “Cinderella” chained to the stove by her stepmother. Maybe you’ve already figured this out, but all of those things are far more violent and vicious in real life than they are in the story books. Pre-tty disturbing! Anyway, Sam and Dean arrive to investigate and find that the attacks are being caused by the spirit a coma patient named Callie. It turns out that Callie’s step mother attempted to kill her when she was a little girl. Although she’s grown up now,
