Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 10: Dream a Little Dream of Me

Oh my goodness, FINALLY. We FINALLY got Dean to admit that he doesn’t want to die and he doesn’t deserve to go to Hell. THANK GOODNESS.

Now, we just have to figure out how we’re going to save him from the literal devil in the next six hours of television. But, I’m sure the boys will manage it because there’s like 12 more seasons of this show, and I’m guessing they don’t happen with demon Dean as one of the main characters.

Anyway.

This episode was a LOT. From a psychological perspective anyway. Watching Dean argue with himself about how worthless he is as a human being was INTENSE. Not to mention that Dean killed his dream self; I’m guessing that’s some major psychological symbolism some way or another. Like I said, I’m glad that Dean has admitted that he wants to live, but the mental trauma he had to endure in this episode was just BRUTAL. Poor Dean!

In case you need a recap, in this episode Sam and Dean learn that Bobby is essentially in a coma. They arrive to investigate and discover that Bobby has been trapped in his own dreams by a young man named Jeremy who has learned to manipulate dreams. I feel like that’s basically the definition of trippy, right? They enter Bobby’s dreams and learn that he’s dreaming about his wife’s death. It turns out that Bobby was forced to kill her after she was possessed by a demon, which is obviously tragic. Jeremy tries to trap all three of them in the dream world, which is when Dean is forced to confront a demon version of himself (again, poor Dean). However, Sam manages to turn the situation around by trapping Jeremy in his own nightmare. Jeremy’s father, who had abused him in the past, kills him in the dream world, allowing the Winchesters and Bobby to go free.

I have to say that I didn’t care too much for this episode (except for the last few minutes where we see Dean battling himself). However, I enjoy getting some insight into Bobby’s past. Otherwise, this episode didn’t really stand out to me. The concept is interesting, but there have been more appealing episodes this season.

Also, how cute was it when Dean was dreaming about having a family with Lisa and Ben? If that dream came true, I’m pretty sure he would be the coolest soccer dad ever.
