Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 4: Sin City

I can’t lie, this episode was kind of a snoozer for me. Like, to me, it just felt like filler, which is probably not a fair assessment. But, for whatever reason, I just didn’t like it. It happens. Basically, this episode was about a ton that’s being plagued by demons, which are making the town go crazy. (Hence the title “Sin City”). Sam and Dean arrive to investigate, running into another hunter named Richie in the process. Unfortunately, Richie is pretty useless as a hunter, and he ends up getting killed. Dean sets out to get revenge and learns that the bartender, a woman named Casey is a demon. He tries to exorcise her and ends up trapped in a basement with the demon. Meanwhile, Sam tries to come to his rescue and ends up in a fight with another demon. However, Bobby arrives and helps them kill the demons. There were some good plot moments though. Also, it seems like demon girl— Ruby—has fixed the Colt. I am intrigued. We could certainly use another demon killing device. I was also v

Peaky Blinders: Season 4 Episode 6 Review

Thank GOODNESS Arthur isn't actually dead! When he walked back on the screen, I was so, so relieved. Don't get me wrong, I totally believed that he was dead when Tommy said he was; that scene was masterful. But, no offense to Tommy and the rest of the gang, the show just would not be the same without Arthur. Like, when I thought he had really died, I was like "oh, crap, what are they going to do in season 5???" But, fortunately, we do not have that problem. Anyway, on the whole, this was a very interesting finale. Quite honestly, it didn't feel like any PB finale that I've seen before. It was slower and more contemplative. I know that there's at least one more season, but this episode almost felt like it could have been the conclusion of the whole show. I mean, the Shelbys have more power than ever and no enemies? What could be a more perfect way to end the show? I am, however, very glad it's not the end of the show because, as we all know, I

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 3: Bad Day at Black Rock

I AM BATMAN! I love Dean Winchester so much I can’t even put it into words. Like, who has such fantastic one liners and is also that ridiculously good looking? Ugh, I can’t even. But seriously, I’m going to start using that line in my real life now, see if I don’t! But, before I get too distracted, let’s talk about the episode. I’m getting real annoyed that no one has killed Gordon yet. Like, I keep telling Sam and Dean that they need to end him, but it’s almost like they’re projections on my TV screen and can’t hear me *shrug*. Seriously though, they should have killed him when they had the chance. I think this is the third time he’s shown up to screw with them. I get that Sam and Dean don’t want to hurt a human, but, at some point, enough is enough, right? Like, how many times is Gordon going to get them almost killed? SMH. But, what was truly creepy was the weirdo Jesus dude. Like, normally I’m all for Jesus people, but this guy was like truly a psycho. I mean, you know you’re a der

Peaky Blinders: Season 4 Episode 5 Review

Where to begin?! I feel like a ton of stuff happened in this episode. I mean, a ton of stuff happens in every episode, but this one was really jam packed. Even so, I still feel like this episode was mostly set up. Everything is building up to the season four finale, which must be really incredible because I can't imagine how they're going to resolve all these plots in just one hour! First of all, I cannot tell you how glad I am that Polly didn't betray Tommy. That's a huge weight off my mind. That does not, however, negate the fact that Michael kind of betrayed Tommy, but I imagine that will be addressed later. Right now, I want to focus on how cool Tommy looked with that machine gun. That's an OG move for sure. On the other hand, I'm beginning to think that Luca is not a very good gangster. Like, he's had a million chances to kill Tommy at this point. Why is he still alive? How have they botched all of these assassination attempts so badly?? Like, the m

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 2: The Kids Are Alright

Okay, raise your hand if you were convinced that Ben was Dean’s kid. I mean, I know that the mom said he wasn’t, but I’m still half convinced. Like, they have the same pick up lines, the same sense of humor, and the same taste in music. They’re even wearing the same jacket! How is Ben not mini-Dean? But, I digress. Let us talk about this episode. Guys, I am 100% confident that this was the FREAKIEST thing I have ever seen on television. Seriously, I was not prepared for how much this episode scared me. I think it was because it was both hilarious and extremely terrifying. Like, one minute you’re eating race-car birthday cake, and the next minute there’s a kid with a sucker mouth and empty holes for eyes in your rearview mirror. Like, what am I supposed to do with THAT? I know I’ve said it before, but I’m going to say it again. Supernatural needs to quit with the creepy kids, especially the creepy little girls. I just don’t think my heart can take it anymore. Everytime the

Review: Supernatural Season 3, Episode 1: The Magnificent Seven

So, I guess Supernatural is going to be all demon hunting all the time going forward. Like, I’m okay with that, don’t get me wrong. Demons, you gotta hate ‘em, amirite? Overall, however, I just didn’t love this episode. Out of the three season premieres I’ve seen thus far, this one is definitely the weakest. I just felt like the episode was a little unfocused. Basically this episode just reveals the aftermath of opening the Hell Gate. Demons are rampaging across the world and causing all sorts of trouble, and Sam and Dean are on hand to save the day. In this episode, they encounter the seven deadly sins made incarnate. The seven are set on destroying the Winchesters, so, of course, they have to send them back to hell. Along the way, they encounter a married couple who happen to be hunters. They blame Sam and Dean for letting the demons loose, which seems a bit unfair to me. I mean, surely that was Jake’s fault. Sam and Dean just tried to stop him. It wasn’t really their fault that th

First Polly and now Michael! Why is everyone betraying Tommy???? I am genuinely really distressed by all of this. I mean, I get that Michael doesn't want to throw his mother under the bus, but this is all really, really bad. The only way the PBs are going to get through this alive is by sticking together. Internal conflict will destroy them! Surely, anyone with any degree of common sense will realize this. Also, as I've said before, the Mafia will obviously kill them all just as soon as Tommy is dead, deal or no deal. Like, Luca is not going to leave them alive. That would not be good for his street cred. Turning them against each other is just another way for him to inflict pain on Tommy. I hope that Polly understands this. It is very possible that Tommy and Polly planned together that Polly should betray him (kind of like a Snape/Dumbledore deal). I noticed that Polly marked Tommy's diary with a black star, which is what he used to indicate death in season 1. Is t

Review: Supernatural Season 2, Episode 22: All Hell Breaks Loose: Part 2

THIS EPISODE. So much happened! I don’t even know where to begin! I feel like I’m going to have to give my brain a week to process everything that happened in this episode. However, I think the major takeaway is that Dean should be in therapy. I mean to be honest, everyone on this show should be in major therapy; they’re all messed up in some way or another. However, Dean is definitely the worst. I mean the amount of self-loathing you have to experience before you decide that you deserve to go to hell is simply staggering. Obviously he’s having a difficult time coping with losing Sam, but his self destructive tendencies are off the chart. I just feel so incredibly bad for him, knowing that he thinks he’s so worthless he doesn’t even think he deserves to live. I mean, I think Bobby said it best: “What is it with you Winchesters, huh? You, your dad. You're both just itching to throw yourselves down the pit.” Also, you have to consider how Sam feels. To know that the person you love b

POLLY! Polly!!!! I am so frustrated with her in this moment. Like, I get that she hates Tommy and for good reason (although, I gotta remind her that she took the King's shilling), but she's going to BETRAY HIM TO THE MAFIA!!! Come on now, that's a bit much. I really hope that Polly and Tommy are actually in cahoots together and this is all a way for Tommy to set a trap for Luca. I really, really hope that that's the case because a) I don't want to hate Polly and b) she's smarter than this. Like, if Polly is earnestly trying to betray Tommy, does she honestly think the Mafia is going to spare Michael??? Like, they're the MAFIA. I don't think that's how that works. Luca will say "thank you very much for helping me kill Tommy, the person who was protecting you, now let me put a bullet in your son's head and then one in yours." Like, seriously, Polly and Michael have a MUCH better chance of surviving with Tommy on their side, wor

Review: Supernatural Season 2, Episode 21: All Hell Breaks Loose: Part 1

Okay, so I need someone to reassure me that everything is okay because I’m pretty sure I just saw Sam die. I mean, maybe he can recover from that stab wound (like Arya did when she stabbed a bajillion times in a row on Game of Thrones ; I’m still bitter about that), but it looked pret-ty bad to me. But Sam can’t die, right? There’s still like thirteen more seasons! If Sam dies, who is going to be the sensitive one with puppy-dog eyes? He is vital to the show! I’m just going to assume that Dean and Bobby find a way to save him because I CANNOT contemplate Supernatural without Sam. I refuse! Anyway, let’s actually talk about the episode. We finally met the Yellow-Eyed Demon in the flesh and learned what he’s after. I was quite interested to learn that, aside from his plans to raise a demonic hell army, he’s quite a sassy dude. I like that he also enjoys making sarcastic comments about Supernatural , kind of like me reviewing this episode (except I don’t wear creepy contacts).

Review: Supernatural Season 2, Episode 20: What is and What Should Never Be

If I think about this episode too much, I’m going to start sobbing. Wow, this episode was a tearjerker! I felt so bad for Dean in this episode. When he sees his mom and hugs her...like, I really FELT that. You know? That had some emotional impact. In this episode, Sam and Dean are trying to track down a genie. Unfortunately, the genie gets to them first and sends Dean into an alternate reality where his mother never died (kind of like a wish fulfillment thing). The only problem is the alternate world only exists in his mind, and Dean is actually strung up in a warehouse with the genie feeding off his life force. A bit problematic, no? Anyway, Dean has to make a choice to simply exist in the alternate world where he has a happy, normal life or return to the real world, which is full of pain for him. Of course, Dean has to make the morally correct decision and come back to the real world, but it’s a really difficult moment because you can tell he really wanted to stay. Throughout t

Peaky Blinders: Season 4 Episode 2 Review

And, just like that, the Shelbys are back! I really did enjoy this episode. It felt like a homecoming to me. It seemed that everyone (minus John, more about that later) is more or less back where they're supposed to be. We're back in Small Heath and back on Watery Lane, breathing in the smells of Birmingham. Tommy is organizing boxing matches on his factory floor and Arthur is taking bets. Good times, good times. Of course, it's not that simple. The Mafia is after the Shelbys now (although, they're going to be honorable about killing them, whatever that means). I think Curly summarized the situation best when he said to May, "Yeah, there's 15 of them. Yeah, they want to kill us all. But we've got guns and grenades and Aunt Polly's back, so it's going to be OK. Yeah." I couldn't have said it better myself Curly. Plus, the expression on May's face was priceless. Speaking of which, May is back! Hip hip hooray! I love her character. I

Review: Supernatural Season 2, Episode 19: Folsom Prison Blues

I was HERE for this episode. I mean, I really loved it. There was nothing that could have been improved upon; it was just as close to perfect as TV gets, IMO. I think I could rewatch this ten times back to back and not get bored of it. That’s how much I liked it. On second thought, I could watch a whole season of Sam and Dean getting arrested and then escaping from the Feds; I’m just so entertained by it. As I’ve said before, the whole FBI investigation subplot is super interesting to me. I want to know how the cops perceive what they’re doing and what they think their motives are. So, this episode was great for me. I love that Dean sasses the FBI agent. I love that he adjusts so quickly to being in jail (it was so funny when Sam is like “how are you so comfortable there”). I love that Dean makes friends with Tiny after he beats him up. It’s all just a fantastic, dramatic prison comedy, if such a thing exists. What would that genre be called a dramedy? I don’t know. Per usual

Peaky Blinders: Season 4 Episode 1 Review

If you've been reading this blog for a while, you might know that I tend not to love Peaky Blinders season premieres, and this episode was no exception. Don't get me wrong, it was engaging and beautifully shot, and the acting is phenomenal. However, to me, it almost didn't feel like the same show. Seasons 1 and 2, while very dramatic, had a certain lightness about them. In contrast, season three was almost uniformly bleak and joyless. It gave us some great and dramatic moments, but it also robbed us of some of the more touching moments that made seasons 1 and 2 so enjoyable. So far, season 4 seems to be following in the vein of season 3. First of all, it's absolutely heartbreaking to see the Shelbys at odds, each isolated in their own mansion, battling his or her own demons. They're not even really Peaky Blinders anymore. None of them wear the signature PB hat, which seems to have major symbolic importance. Now, if I were Polly, John, and Arthur, I probably wo

Review: Supernatural Season 2, Episode 18: Hollywood Babylon

If there’s one thing we all learned from this episode, it’s that Dean is one hell of a PA. Seriously though, this was a FANTASTIC episode. It was so funny! I think I laughed for 45 minutes straight. I mean, Jensen Ackles (Dean) is just GOLD as a comedy actor. Like, no shade to Jared Padalecki (Sam), but it’s really Jensen/Dean that made this episode so good. I love that Dean got so invested in making the movie, I love that he was making comments on the acting, and I love LOVE how much he loved the food. If you notice, Dean is super into eating in every single episode. Everytime they sit down for a meal, he’s digging in with gusto, no matter what it is. This does, however, bring up something I have been wondering about: Sam and Dean are always eating junk food and drinking beer, plus they spend the majority of their time sitting in the car. How do they keep in shape? Like, we’ve seen both of them shirtless at this point in the show, and we know they have chiseled abs. How does that

Review: Supernatural Season 2, Episode 17: Heart

I think this episode is called “Heart” because Sam gets his heart broken. Okay, that was an incredibly bad joke, but this was an incredibly sad episode, so it works out. But seriously, this episode made me feel a type of way. It had some real emotional IMPACT? You know? I really felt it. I think it was especially sad because this was the first time Sam and Dean weren’t able to save the person they were trying to help (except for maybe their dad or Meg), which was really sad. I mean, the ending scene where Sam had to shoot Maddison was just brutal. Plus, Jared and Jensen (the actors who play Sam and Dean) did such a great job acting that moment. When Sam was crying, it just seemed so genuine . And then Dean started crying, and I was like, “Don’t cry Dean! If you cry, I’m going to cry too!” Of course, this whole episode was really a metaphor for the relationship between Sam and Dean. Sam has asked Dean several times to kill him if he becomes evil, and, of course, Dean always say

Peaky Blinders: Season 3 Episode 6 Review

THIS SHOW! Just when you think they couldn't possibly make Peaky Blinders any more dramatic, they go and drop an episode like THAT on you. Like, I don't even know how to begin processing what I've just seen. First of all, I'm not even sure how I'm supposed to feel about what happened. This episode was such an emotional rollercoaster, my brain feels like a scrambled egg. Secondly, what even happened? Like, I'm literally not even sure what was going on from a plot perspective. So many people double and triple crossed each other and there were so many plots inside of plots, that I lost the thread a long time ago. Which, honestly, is my main criticism of this season. While this episode was immensely dramatic, it wasn't nearly as satisfying as previous PB season finales. They pushed all of the characters to the brink in this season with a horrifically complicated story line that most people would need several flow charts to understand. And, if I'm being

Review: Supernatural Season 2, Episode 16: Roadkill

I just want to note for the record that I called this episode from the beginning! When the car hit the tree, I was like “oh Molly is a ghost now. Too bad. So sad.” But seriously, this was a majorly dark episode. Like, it was HEAVY. I mean, I really felt genuinely sad at the end of the episode. It was pretty emotional. As a recap, this episode focuses on the ghost of a woman (who doesn’t know she’s a ghost) who died in a car accident that also killed another man. Every year, the ghost of the man she killed captures and tortures her ghost as revenge for his death. Sam and Dean figure out what’s going on and realize that her ghost is trapped in world because she’s looking for her husband, who was also in the car accident but survived. Fortunately, they are able to show her that her husband is living a happy life and help her move on to the other side. I think this episode was the first time I’ve ever felt bad for the “monster of the week,” if you can count the Molly-ghost as a monst

Peaky Blinders: Season 3 Episode 5 Review

Well, that was dark and twisted. As much as I enjoy the DRAMA of this show, I'm going to need it to regain some cheerfulness at some point. A little joie de vivre, if you will. However, I have a feeling that tunnels under the Thames, Faberge eggs, and bullets in the heads of certain priests is going to put me in a good mood in the next episode. But, before we get there, let's just take a minute to talk about how utterly INSANE the Russians are in this show. Like, I'm with Alfie, none of the Blinders should ever have gotten involved with that at all. Granted, Tommy didn't have much of a choice, but I think his beautiful eyes were bigger than his stomach in this situation. Anyway, I genuinely do not think I can watch any more horrifyingly graphic orgy scenes, tattoo inspections, or whatever Fifty Shades of Grey with an extra smattering of psychological torment stuff went on between Tatiana and Tommy. Seriously though, that was a pretty disturbing sex scene if you

Review: Supernatural Season 2, Episode 15: Tall Tales

So, I think this is as close to a sitcom as Supernatural gets. This episode was HI-LARIOUS. I loved it. I’m guessing they added this episode to break up some of the heavier moments in the season, and I’m glad they did because it was FUN. In a nutshell, a trickster is running loose on a college campus, causing people to get eaten by alligators and get abducted by aliens (you’ll never here “Lady in Red” the same way again). You know, run of the mill, normal stuff. This episode didn’t really add anything to the show in terms of plot development (except for, once again, we learn that Bobby knows everything and is, in fact, the real MVP), but it was so enjoyable I didn’t care. It was a nice break from all the doom and gloom. The funniest parts of the episode were Sam and Dean explaining what the other person did and totally exaggerating it. Like, in the bar scene, Dean is listening to Sam talk and he’s just hearing “blah, blah, blah” while the girl he was hitting on tells him how g
