Review: Supernatural Season 6, Episode 4: Weekend at Bobby's
I think the theme of this episode is POOR BOBBY!
Supernatural focuses on Sam and Dean, so sometimes it’s easy to forget that other characters have problems too. To be honest, I’d kind of forgotten that Bobby had sold his soul to Crowley; I’d just kind of assumed that he got his soul back when he was resurrected at the end of season five.
But, I should have known better because Crowley—for all his witty banter—is, after all, a demon.
In case you need a recap, this episode is mostly about Bobby. He spends most of the episode trying to find a way to get his soul back from Crowley, but keeps getting interrupted by other hunters asking for help (in both horrifying and hilarious ways). I can’t decide what was better, Bobby breaking into the library through the window or the vampire-ish monster going through the woodchipper. Anyway, the episode ends with Bobby yelling at Sam and Dean for not helping him when he needs it. The brothers then go to Scotland, dig up Crowley’s bones, and threaten to burn them unless Crowley releases Bobby. Fortunately, their scheme works.
It’s good to know that the burning bones thing works for demons too. Although, it would have been helpful if they’d figured that out earlier.
Anyway, I’m glad we got a Supernatural episode focused on Bobby. I feel like so often he gets overlooked as a character, and if you look back through these blogs, you’ll see that I’ve been saying that Bobby deserves more appreciation for a long time. This episode really gave us all a taste of how completely vital Bobby is to all the hunters out there, not to mention it really shows how many sacrifices he makes to help his friends. I’m glad that Sam and Dean finally helped Bobby out, instead of the other way around.
On a side note, has anyone else figured out how Rufus got a bamboo dagger blessed by a Shinto priest? I don’t think you can pick that up at Wal-Mart.
