Peaky Blinders: Season 2 Episode 4 Review

I ๐Ÿ‘have ๐Ÿ‘so ๐Ÿ‘many ๐Ÿ‘ things ๐Ÿ‘to ๐Ÿ‘say ๐Ÿ‘ about ๐Ÿ‘this ๐Ÿ‘episode!

First of all, Grace is back! Be still my beating heart, the next episode is going to be DRAMATIC. I mean, I figured we'd see her again, but I'm really not sure how this is going to go. Plus, she's in London with her husband, who probably is not going to enjoy meeting Tommy. This is a perfect recipe for disaster if you ask me.

In other news, Michael is working for Shelby Ltd now. I guess that means he's sticking around! I still don't know how I feel about his character; he's kind of tough to read. But, hey, if it makes Polly happy, it's good enough for me.

Speaking of Michael, he got a real taste of what the PBs do in this episode when they burned down the bar. Although, as I've said before, Michael doesn't seem repealed by the violence so much as attracted to it. For the record, I also want to give the Blinders credit for being the most inclusive organized crime organization around and not putting up with racism. The Shelbys themselves are outsiders in Britain, by virtue of their Irish and Romani heritage and their Catholicism, so it makes sense that they are comparatively openminded when it comes to other minorities.

But, the real star of this episode was May, or rather Tommy's relationship with May.

MAY.

I like her. Dare I say, she might be a more engaging, complex love interest than Grace? Like, don't get me wrong, I like Grace, but I feel like May's character is written with a lot more nuance, and we've only seen her in two episodes! Imagine if she was a regular on the show! And she had such AMAZING lines.

I love it when she shows up in the Shelby company offices and was like, "When I drove into Small Heath, I thought I was going to get murdered. Then I mentioned your name. It was like being escorted to see a king." That's Tommy all right, the king of Small Heath. It was also hilarious when she said she'd come because she wanted to see a real gambling den; I hope the offices of Shelby Company Ltd. measured up to her expectations.

Plus, I adored their little scene in the Garrison together when Tommy is shocked that she wants something with her whiskey. He also had a fantastic line in that scene: "Do you want to f*** me, Mrs. Carleton?" Dude, that was a BOLD move. But, I'm sensing that May likes his bad boy persona and straightforwardness.

Not to mention that Tommy was fantastic when he came to visit her house. I love him asking for a map and then telling her how he's going to come into her bedroom at night, all while making relentless eye contact. Man, you can say what you want about Tommy Shelby, but that guy has some CONFIDENCE.

I also want to note that the scene between Solomons and Sabini in the episode was GOLD. Pure gold. I have never laughed so hard while watching this show. I especially liked them telling each other to write things down. The whole scene kind of reminded me of the phone call scene in Dr. Strangelove with the US president and the leader of Russia continually apologizing to each other and getting into an argument about who is more sorry. GOLD I tell you! Gold.

In a development that will surprise no one, I am EXTREMELY concerned about Arthur. There's going off the deep end, and then there's whatever Arthur is doing. I knew that the coke would get out of hand, and, lo and behold, I was right. Also, 600 pounds on cocaine is a LOT of money; I'm pretty sure it's like 30K in today's money. But hey, olives are expensive, right?
