Review: Supernatural Season 5, Episode 2: Good God, Y’All

Ohhhh well this was a trippy episode!

There were no demons after all; they were just in their minds! There’s some profound point that can be made about that, but I can’t think of it right now.

Anyway, I thought this was a fun episode, if you can call war and mass hallucinations fun. Compared to everything else that’s been happening in this show, it was like a trip to Chucky Cheese.

Basically, in this episode Sam and Dean investigate a town that has been overrun by demons (supposedly). When they arrive, they find that several hunters (Jo, Ellen, and Rufus) are already on the case. However, Rufus and Jo have been possessed. Sam, Dean, and Ellen set out to find and free them, but, when they bump into Jo and Rufus, they think that they are possessed instead. Quite a head scratcher, right?

Anyway, it turns out that War— one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse— has arrived in the town and is making everyone believe that everyone else is possessed, even though no one is actually possessed at all. Trippy, huh? Fortunately, the hunters are able to team up to steal War’s ring, giving them the power to break the hallucination. The episode ends with Sam telling Dean that he has to go his own way for a while in order to take a break from hunting.

Although the whole episode is entertaining, this is obviously the most important point. I don’t like the idea of Sam and Dean splitting up, but, if Sam is still addicted to demon blood (and it seems like he is), it might be for the best. Unfortunately, I don’t think there are any demon blood addiction clinics he can check into.

Also, I gotta say that I was tickled by the title of this episode. I want to meet the person who comes up with names for all the Supernatural episodes; they must be a hoot and a half.
