Review: Supernatural Season 10, Episode 8: Hibbing 911

Now this was a GOOD episode.

(Although, to be fair, I love every episode that involves Jody Mills.)

In case you need a quick recap, in this episode Jody attends a sheriff’s retreat in Hibbing, Minnesota. While she’s there, she meets Sheriff Donna Hanscum, who we meet in the fat-sucking episode (one of the weirdest Supernatural monsters we’ve encountered). As Jody suffers through the retreat, dead bodies begin to appear in town, and she soon realizes that monsters are involved. Sam and Dean arrive to investigate, and, shortly afterwards, Donna realizes that vampires are to blame!

After a quick crash course in monsters (for Donna), the four of them set out to hunt vampires, which happen to include the sheriff of Hibbing. They manage to kill them all, and Jody offers to teach Donna more about hunting monsters.

Personally, I think Donna is going to be a great hunter. She’s such a fun character! Sweet and soft on the outside, but rock hard and tough as nails on the inside. I really hope that we see her again on the show. I love her attitude, and her accent is great!

I also loved seeing Jody stand up to Donna’s ex-husband. That guy is 100% a jerk. Jody was right to tell him off. Hopefully, Donna will be able to stand up for herself in the future.

I was also glad to hear that Alex (from season nine) is still living with Jody. It’s nice to see Jody developing a surrogate family (even though Alex is certainly pushing her buttons). I hope we get to see Alex again on the show.

For me, the importance of this episode was character development. The plot itself wasn’t all that interesting (although the sheriff’s convention was a bit funny), but the show made up for it with the excellent character development we saw here. It’s been one of my favorite episodes of the season so far.

Rating: 8/10
