If there is ever a Supernatural spinoff show, I want it to be about Sam and Dean as children. Heartbreaking as it is, I’m endlessly fascinated by the story of how the Winchesters grew up. It sheds so much light on how they behave as adults, and the writers manage to infuse their childhood stories with so much genuine emotion. (Plus, I live for the 80s and 90s vibes). Seriously, I love Supernatural flashback episodes. I think this one reiterated something we all already knew: John Winchester was a terrible father. The more I learn about his parenting, the more surprised I am that Sam and Dean aren’t more emotionally scarred. I’m sure I’m preaching to the choir here, but who leaves their sixteen-year-old to rot in jail because he tried to steal food for his hungry brother? That is beyond harsh if you ask me. It’s actually really cold and unfeeling. And, the fact that John only came back to get Dean when he needed him is even worse. Does John not realize that anything could have happene...

I’ve gone through ups and downs with Castiel throughout this series, but this episode reaffirmed why I always go back to loving him. Seriously, Castiel was ADORABLE in this episode. I love him as a convenience store employee! Weirdly, it’s the perfect career for him. He takes taquitos and lottery tickets so seriously! It’s fantastic. I also like how he wears his blue vest everywhere, even on (supposed) dates! Like I said, adorable. “When I fell to earth, I didn't just lose my powers. I had nothing. Now, I'm a sales associate!” Has got to be the defining quote of this episode. One day, I would like to be as proud of something as Cas is to be a sales associate. I was actually pretty annoyed with Dean for making fun of him. Like, why can’t Castiel have a normal life? Why can’t he have a normal job? Sure, he’s an ex-angel with the hoardes of Heaven on his tail, but he deserves time to stop and smell the roses! (If you can call the smell of the gas station bathroom roses). Realistic...

Okay. As a cat lover, I found this episode pretty hard to watch. Did that guy really need to eat the cat? Surely, the writers could have spared us that. I’m okay with all the blood, guts, and gore that Supernatural can throw at me, but I draw a line at causing harm to animals, and that scene in the shelter was pretty gruesome. To be fair, I wasn’t happy with the outcome for any animal in this episode. I guess we just have to hope that someone bothered to let those mice go free and that all the dogs that attacked the monster guy found good homes afterwards. I was a little miffed at Dean for letting all the dogs out. No matter how much they complain, those dogs were definitely better off in the shelter than on the streets. Especially the blind one! I guess I should be grateful that no one killed a dog in this episode. I’m almost 100% sure that a dog has never survived an episode of Supernatural (except for the one that Sam ran over, but that was a close call). That being said, I really...

Oh my goodness, this was such a FUN episode. I feel like every time Charlie appears, an amazing episode ensues. I know that she’s off to Oz now, but hopefully she comes back to planet Earth sometimes to catch up with the Winchesters. It was a bit weird to see the Wicked Witch of the West on Supernatural , but I have to admit that it worked well in this episode. Those flying monkeys were certainly one of the most terrifying monsters I’ve seen on Supernatural . In general, I thought that incorporating the mythology of the Wizard of Oz into the show was really clever. The whole episode was like a little movie! I particularly liked the character of Dorothy. She’s clearly a great hunter, and she’s lived a really interesting life. I hope we see her on the show again. Aside from the Wizard of Oz element, I thought this was a great episode for character building and development. I really enjoyed seeing Sam and Dean interact with Charlie in a relaxed way. Remember how I said in the last review that I wasn’t sure about Ezekiel? Well, now I’m sure about Ezekiel, and I’m sure I don’t like him. Anyone who says that Castiel needs to go is majorly suspicious to me. It’s possible that Ezekiel isn’t trying to heal Sam, and he doesn’t want Castiel to know about it. Ezekiel might even be one of the big bads of this season. But, whatever the situation is, I’m not trusting Ezekiel anymore. However, in my opinion, the best part of the episode was Castiel learning to be human. Seriously, I could watch an entire season just about Castiel and his human activities. I’m glad he’s finally appreciating what Sam and Dean go through, but I’m thinking that Castiel is going to enjoy being a human eventually. We know that he definitely enjoys sex! (Even if it was with a reaper). His quotes in this episode were too funny! I particularly enjoyed “Do you ever tire of urinating? I'll never get used to it” and “I am really enjoying this place. I really enjoyed the premiere of season nine, so I felt a little let down by this episode. It’s not that it was bad; it just wasn’t all that exciting to me. I suppose the season needs some episodes that just function to set up the plot, but five minutes after the episode ended I had already forgotten what happened, so that tells me it wasn’t all that interesting. That being said, I did enjoy Abaddon complaining about Crowley being the King of Hell when he’s really only a sales person. If there’s one thing you can always count on, it’s the fact that everyone is capable of pettiness, even Knights of Hell. What I’m gathering from this episode is that Abaddon is probably going to be one of the big bads of this season. I’m guessing that her plan is to take over Hell, and I’m not sure how I feel about that. Abaddon certainly has less imagination than Crowley, so she might be a less dangerous opponent for the Winchesters in the long run. On the other hand, she’s much harder to kill. I was kin...

If all the episodes in season nine are as good as the first one, this is going to be a FANTASTIC season. First of all, I love any episode that includes the character of Death. He’s so great! So enigmatic. So captivating. Although, of course, I’m glad that Sam decided to live. Of course, there was never really any doubt that he was going to live because there are like six more seasons of this show, but not dying is always a good move. On the other hand, I thoroughly expect an absolute disaster when Sam learns that Dean saved his life through angelic possession. We actually had this exact same situation a few seasons ago when Dean decided not to tell Sam that he had lost his soul, and how did that turn out? Dean just refuses to learn that he should be honest with Sam. It’s SO frustrating. On the other side of the episode, I’m in love with the idea of all the angels falling to Earth and having to deal with Earth problems.
