Review: The Last Kingdom Season 4 Episode 10

Now THAT is how end a SEASON! I mean, was that a great finale or was that a great finale?

I don't know about you but I felt that we got the perfect mix of tying up loose ends and setting the scene for future seasons in this episode. The siege of Winchester is over and Uhtred's family and friends are dispersing to their individual duties and homes. Looking forward to next season, we can anticipate that Uhtred will be raising Æthelstan , Brida will be raising her own murderous child, and there will be no end of political infighting in the courts of Wessex. Fun, no? But, that's for the future. For now, let's dive into talking about this episode.

First of all, we HAVE to talk about Stiorra's romance with Sigtryggr. I mean, if you can call it a romance. There were very few romantic scenes between them, which is a little disappointing from my point of view. I'm not doubting that they're into each other, but I think the audience needed one or two more scenes to really set up their relationship. That being said, I'm in favor of this from a plot perspective. Imagine what Stiorra could achieve as the wife of a Viking warlord! If you're not getting warrior queen vibes from her, I don't know what to tell you. I just hope that her marriage doesn't mean that Stiorra will no longer be a main character on the show. She's been one of my favorite characters this season, and I'm not ready to give her up!

Continuing our theme of romance, I am in LOVE with Eadith and Finan's relationship. They are ADORABLE together. The way Finan looks out for Eadith is so touching and kind, while Eadith's bravery for Finan is deeply moving. There are so few good couples on this show; I'm so glad the writers finally gave us a satisfying pairing. Now, all I need them to do is set a wedding date and have lots of adorable babies together. Come on Last Kingdom writers, I'm waiting!

On a less pleasant subject, I have to say that I was supremely annoyed by Edward's behavior in this episode (shocker, I know). He's been a disappointment this entire season, and he continued that theme through this episode. Seriously, I get that he was a grieving father throughout most of this episode, but his behavior was unbelievably childish and sighted. It is a miracle that he's managed to hang on to the throne this long, that's for sure.

Speaking of people who have disappointed me, I'm upset about the turn Brida's character has taken. Seeing her consumed by hatred and anger is really disappointing. However, I understand why the writers decided to take her in that direction, and, honestly, it was probably the most realistic direction for her character to travel in. I just hope that Uhtred doesn't live to regret letting her go.

I'm also sorry to see Ælswith go. I disliked her throughout most of the show, but she didn't deserve to die of poisoning. And she certainly didn't deserve to be poisoned by Æthelhelm. That dude is a cockroach. I hate him most of all.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed season four of The Last Kingdom; I know that I did! Personally, I will be on pins and needles until the next season of The Last Kingdom is released. But, in the meantime, at least we now have four seasons to rewatch and binge.

Destiny is all!
